Just ordered the Fascinate

Hi Everyone,

Just ordered the fascinate. Browsing this forum helped me to decide to go ahead and make the plunge to android. It seems my biggest concerns (the bing searches and all the bloatware installed by verizon) have already been addressed by all you guys! Thanks for all the hardwork guys!

I do have some questions:
1. i have been reading this forum non stop and wondered if anyone had a what to do first guide?

what i mean is, this is what I gather to be the first steps a person should do when getting a fascinate, just not sure if i'm correct or putting things out of order:

a. Download appbrain
b. Download launcher pro
c. download root explorer
d. root device
e. fix bing search issues
f. fix lag problems

Is this the correct order?

2. How to I backup my device? I wan to back it up as soon as i first get it, and then after i do all of the above. This way i have 2 versions of the OS (the stock version and the clean rooted version).

3. Will i have to do all this after 2.2 comes out. the answers I have seen in the forum seem to indicate yes

I am in the same club you are....I just brought a Fascinate (the day it came out actually). I switched over from BB, not sure what platform you came from...but if I were you, I would hold off on rooting your phone until you get the hang of it...kind of learn the ins and outs. It took me a couple of weeks to really get comfortable using the phone and getting used to the UI before I went ahead and rooted it......I still think I should have waited a bit, too late now. There are plenty of great back up apps on marketplace or appbrain....I am using Titanium Backup....works quite nicely for me. You can do whatever you want just putting in my 2 cents for what it's worth. GL!

thanks guys, just thought of another thing, rename bloatware. is there a what to do first guide on this forum that i have missed? also do people usually cycle their battery when they first get the fascinate?

I have been cycling by battery for about a week now and much better now. I was lucky to get a day out of it when I first got it and now I'm only down to 40 or 50% after 18 hours of use.
