Just purchased a Sensation 4G, and I am having second thoughts

Re: Just purchased a Sensation 4G, and I am having second thought

I just picked up an HTC Sensation today and I have to admit, Im rather dissapointed. The speed on the device - Everything is super slow. Online speeds feel like im on lesser speeds than old school 56k. Loading screens is slow. Sounds are delayed. Scrolling speeds on the home screen from one home screen to the next are slow. I mean come on... for a dual core, 1.2ghz cpu and the ram it has it SHOULD be blowing my Droid Incredible out of the water but its not. My Droid Incredible currently blows this thing out of the water and that sucks to say that. Especially since the Sensation is "4G" and my Incredible was 3g...

Ill give it a little more time before I decide to take it back, maybe itll get quicker. Who knows. I even tried a factory reset to see if it was worked install but still, on the 2nd installation, its still slow.

That doesn't sound like my sensation. It also sounds like you might be exaggerating the difference.

All I'll say is this; this blows the doors off any Android device I've ever used (save for the G2X). That includes the Incredible and its successor, and any other phone available on any other carrier.

Trust me when I say Im not exaggerating... I want to like this device but right now something must be defective with my device because its not running correctly. Everything is really slow. Im tempted to take it back and try the G2x... but like I said, Ill give it another day and see what happens with my device.

I second that!

What exactly isn't running correctly?

I can't take a post like this seriously. Anyone who uses the terms like "everything", "always", "never", cannot be taken seriously.

Cool so I'm just wasting my breath than. Gotta love communities like this.

Look I'm not blowing smoke up anyones ass. It's a phone why The hell would I do that? That would be ridiculous.

Opening/closing apps are slow.
Internet data speeds are slow even for "4g". Very slow as in on sitting loading a web page for 5-10min and I'm not kidding.
Scrolling from screen to screen is sluggish.
Sounds are all delayed. As in sounds that happen later than it should have. For example the text notification sound. I'll get a txt and a few min later the sound will play.

These are all examples of the things going on with the device. Now if you choose to believe me or not is entirely your decision but I wouldn't sit here blowing smoke up anyone's butt over a phone of all things.

Re: Just purchased a Sensation 4G, and I am having second thought

You could just use some common sense and return it if things are clearly not working as they should.

Your phone must be defective. Have you upgraded your SIM card? That would improve data speeds. In any case, your phone is clearly not working to it's full potential.

If I remember correctly, the guy put in a brand spanken new SIM card right infront of me. Or atleast it looked like it. I also got ahold of customer service and the lady mentioned to bring it in. Doesnt sound right and even before calling in, I already decided I would. Was just posting here to see what others thought of what im experiencing. Question is do I take a leap of faith and try the G2x that Im hearing so many issues with yet its "so good" or try another Sensation...

The G2x after playing with it a little at the store did seem "snappier" with everything... Though do I risk taking the chance of having all those plaquing issues Im reading about with it.

Perhaps your expectations are a little too high? I've had the myTouch 4G and Vibrant 4G and this is a very fast phone. Currently one of the best on the market. My only beef about lag was websites which I have fixed by enabling plugins by demand. Made a huge difference. The Sensation will get many updates which will improve its performance. When you signed your contract did you check your DATA coverage in your area? You could have 5 bars and have GPRS/EDGE data speeds. T-Mobile isn't the best when it comes to coverage but they have one of the best networks. Perhaps the Sensation isn't for you since you are having so many problems with it. Why keep something that doesn't make you happy? I'd return it while you still can. Good luck!

Read this before getting the G2X.

Not too high at all. Im comparing it to my Droid Incredible which is a two yr old device. If basing my opinion for a device thats brand new vs a device thats two yrs old is any indication...

Data coverage is 4g very good to 4g good in my area but truth be told, after using the device it doesnt feel even remotely 3g speeds, thats may main issue. Each web page that I goto non-WiFi takes anywhere from a few min. to 5 or 10 min to load. That seem right to you? :) The customer service rep I spoke with on the phone said the same thing, it should be a lot faster than it currently is so Im taking it in to swap it out. Though, do I give the G2x a try and see if I like it or try another sensation first? hmm

Re: Just purchased a Sensation 4G, and I am having second thought

That is a good honest review however your problem with the G2x sounds similar to what Im having with my Sensation so the roles are reversed. You take that chance of trying one to see how it is and if you happened to get a faulty, defective device. Though I do appreciate the honest review.

Pages load fine for me so there could be some defect in your phone. Btw the Droid Incredible on Verizon is NOT 2 yrs old. It just turned 1. Original release April 2010. Anyway, I would definitely try another Sensation because at least this way you'll have some piece of mind. Others praise the G2X for its "Vanilla Android" experience but personally I would stay far away from any phone that mysteriously vanished from T-Mobile's site. Good Luck!!!! :D

Oh wow, they took it off the website? There's been a few phones that have done that before, in particular the Droid Incredible was taken down after the first batch of phones went out. They had to manufacture a newer model ASAP cause of some screen issues. During that time, it was off their website. But thats here nor there.

I dont know... I hear good things, and bad things about the G2x. Some say its the best Android phone out to date while others complain and hate it. I think its more so luck of the draw on the device you get and whether or not its buggy/faulty. That's where im at with mine. Mine "feels" buggy so Im heading to swap it out. Either way, thanks

Re: Just purchased a Sensation 4G, and I am having second thought

It's most likely that you have a faulty device. Antenna most likely. Take it to the store and run a compare test on your device against a store one. My device runs faster than myTouch4g I previously owned. And if you like Sense, you'll find it hard to go back to Vanilla Android.

Listen, if you had the original G1 and it was taking 5-10 minutes to load a web page, then the phone is obviously not operating correctly. So if your Sensation is taking more than 10 seconds to load the entire nytimes.com than it's a bad unit or you are having reception/data issues.

The way you worded your post was as if the Sensation was horrible because it was doing all these things worse or slower than any other phone. Then you start to go on about the G2X etc, so it sounds like you had to choose between the two and now you are having buyer's remorse.

It's your unit that is apparently defective or perhaps you have a bad application installed.

Return it and get another one.

Go to Android Market, download Speed Test and run it. Then come back here and post your results. Here's mine

Couldn't be happier. I think your phone is defective.

Everyone relax.
It does seem that your unit is one of few that are bad. Everything on my end is snappy.

My suggestion is to get a replacement, if it messes up, return and try the g2x, see if you like it or if it runs better.

Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G

Went in and got a replacement. Device is running better :) The sales rep I dealt with when I went in even said something wasnt right about the device :(
