So, I received a replacement TB today due to a shattered screen. Got everything back to almost where it is; however, I cannot get the gingerbread update (I think that is where we are at). My old phone had it, but this doesn't.

I go to settings > Software Update > Check New, but it says it is up to date.

I see the following when checking status:
Source: Verizon Wireless
Name:
Status:
Code:
Date:
Time.

Checking software information, I see Android version 2.2.1

Any ideas on how I can get the update to the phone?

Thanks

Mark

I believe the gingerbread OTA was stopped because of some bugs they found. You can either wait till they re-release it or find the manual update file. You can find it on the forums if you search.

Thanks. I was starting to think I was insane. :-)

Be happy you still have froyo. The GB update was a joke. It's hard to believe HTC and VZW both issued the update without getting the bugs out first. Maybe when the have their Cranial Anal Extraction we'll get a working version of GB.

If you haven't gone through all the steps of full setup yet, now's the time to load the most recent RUU from one of various sources if you really want Gingerbread. The latest RUU is the exact same thing we got for the OTA Gingerbread ROM. It just does a factory reset on the phone while loading, but that's no additional hassle to you if you've got a new phone you haven't set up yet.

However, think long and hard about the Gingerbread ROM at this point.

What you gain:
- Skype now works with the front-facing camera.
- Google Talk now works with the microphone and the rear-facing camera (no FFC support).
- Slight improvements/enhancements to Sense (2.0 to 2.1): Better battery status screen, a few additions to the notifications screen.
- Gingerbread itself (a few memory management tweaks, supposed better battery management and connection management, though I haven't really seen anything to write home about).
- Fix of the "SMS sent to wrong person" bug.

What you lose:
- Voicemail notifications for standard Verizon Voicemail (Visual Voicemail and third-party voicemail works fine).
- (possibly) randomization of ringtones and notification sounds (can't reproduce that myself, but I don't use contact-specific notifications or ringtones)
- (possibly) erratic volume of ringtones and notifications (haven't encountered this myself)

All in all, since I use Go Launcher, the only real enhancements are in Skype and Google Talk.

I do like the new battery management screen, and the phone sorta feels a little snappier, but I still have problems establishing a data connection when my phone switches connection modes (WiFi to 3G or vice versa, 3G to 1X or vice versa, and "no connection" to anything).

I also feel like battery life has actually deteriorated a bit. There's still enough to get me through the day with my extended battery, but usually with very little left (whereas with Froyo I felt like I was putting it on the charger at night with 30%+ left a lot more often).

And I'm not even in a 4G coverage area!

You fogot... faster.

I don't really perceive much of a difference.

Then again, I really never waited for anything under Froyo so "fast enough that I never wait" versus "fast enough that I never wait" feels the same to me, even if the second one is actually faster. ;)

This is the one I used the day before the OTA....it is 100% like the OTA but this one installs everything instead of just updating. It will wipe your data....so backup!
