The EVO 4g LTE I purchased on 07/01 had many issues so I decided to swap.

In Austin, TX my old EVO 4G was a better phone because there is no LTE coverage here yet. The bluetooth/Pandora features also worked much better on the old EVO, because the 4g LTE would drop Pandora quite often. What sealed its fate was the known "freeze" bug happening twice, one time for four hours, where the phone just dies and there is nothing you can do to revive it, or reset it. Then finally, on its own, it comes back on and works ok. I really like the phone, but do not trust it enough to keep it, so I got this one.

The reason I am here is because I want to make this phone as much like my EVO as possible. I like the EVO better than this phone by a large margin if it worked properly. This one just seems cheaper, in almost every way, although so far it is more stable and the bluetooth connectivity seems much better. I was disappointed to see no alarm clock, flash light and othe cool EVO feature not preloaded. I was hoping to find some S3 owners that are also EVO fans like myself that can recommend some good apps that will make my phone appear more EVO like. This phone doesnt seem to come with any normal ring tones either. It seems this phone is more for kids than adults. I want to like this phone, maybe you guys can help me see something about it I am missing. I also like the EVO keyboard much better with the vibration. Also, can you get a black cover for the back of the phone. I hate that this phone is white, I wanted black.

I am trying to decide if I should keep this phone, or just return it for refund and get a used phone and wait for a better model. Sorry for the rant, but this whole thing sucks.

As an EVO owner I will tell you up front that some of the widgets, skins, and apps that are found on your previous device are HTC specific. Likewise you will find exclusive widgets on your S3, not to mention other features. There may be some apps that have been ported by someone, don't know for sure. I've only played around with the S3 but I think you should give it as much hands on as your old device. You just may need time to adjust to the Touchwiz interface.

You guys have just posted in a troll thread...... oh snap, I just posted too =(

If there is a slight possibility that this is a serious thread, all the features that you like are related to sense. Sense is actually what is making your phone behave like the way it has been ( like crap ). You wanted a stable phone that is definitely more bare bone, you either get a nexus or you get the GS3. Those issues that you have can definitely be fixed with installing 3rd party apps from the play store.

Its up to you whether or not you want to put the effort into installing it. The GS3 is definitely the smoother more stable phone as you can attest. The phone might feel plasticky, but do not doubt its build quality. This phone is solid, and the quality control is definitely better than HTC's as you can see from the lack of problems this phone has.

Look in the Clock app for the alarm clock, and and add the Assistance Light widget to the home screen for flashlight. Hope it helps.

My advice would be to go back to your old EVO. Problem(s) solved.

Like an idiot I traded it in for a 65.00 credit on my Sprint bill or that is EXACTLY what I would do. I like my old EVO better than both of these phones. Sprint doesn't have a phone I want to buy right now. I am going to call customer service and see what I can do.

I purchased the phone on 07/01 and there was not much information on the bugs the phone has at that time. I have a Samsung HD TV and am a fan of the company and its products, it just seems like this is so much less of a phone than the HTC. The phone quality, and stability is much better for sure, but it lacks the aesthetics of the HTC and loses in this category badly. I see no point in getting an iPhone when it is only 3g capable and I don't like any of the other sprint models.

Are you saying I can install third party apps to stabilize the HTC? Will there be a patch that will fix these problems?

I think he's saying you can get third party apps that act/look like those found on the HTC Evo 4G LTE....and on the OG Evo for that matter.

Like different alarm clocks. Flip clocks. Flash light apps. Black contact widgets, and etc. Just goto the Play Store and start browsing. Most apps/widgets are free so try them out. Also, if you don't like the feel of your S3, there are many, MANY, different cases to choose from that might suit your needs.

Apparently aesthetics weren't enough to keep you from defecting to another device. You apparently liked the S3's plastics better than theEvo's plastics (Yes, half of the rear of the Evo Lte is plastic). And we won't even get into a debate about aluminum all of a sudden being labeled as "high end."

Aesthetics has its place. But aesthetics don't make your life any easier, or translate to sales. Smooth, productive operation does.

You obviously learned this lesson. Hopefully HTC will as well.

I also came from the EVOLTE. Froze up on me a few times every day. If you want to skin your gs3 to make it more like sense, then root it, then grab a rom that closely resembles HTC's skin and get the Fancy Widgets app. Also get Enhanced Email. There are tons of options. That's the beauty of Android. :-)

I still can't grasp the concept of this thread. If you don't like the phone or the color of it then get something else. Why would you need someone else to convince you to like it if you feel so strongly against it?

I just got a brand new SGIII today from Best Buy. I broke my evoLTE over a week ago and I had BB's insurance but they finally called me today to offer me a brand new evoLTE from their shelf so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask if they could give me the SGIII instead... and they did! The multitasking on the evoLTE was horrid...so I clicked on this thread because I too am so used to SENSE....

The phone itself is still in airplane mode until I can get it right but as the previous posters mentioned I'm just going to have to play with it while on the throne and download some apps via wifi...good thing is they gave me a brand new 30days and I've had my evoLTE since launch.

Im looking to get this thing rooted so I can do a TitaniumBU restore on this thing and get all my apps n txt back. . .

After having this phone for a week it has really grown on me and I can see why everyone here likes it. I still miss my Evo but not nearly as much as I did because of the stability the Samsung offers. The Galaxy S3 is so much better when listening to Pandora over bluetooth in the car that I could never go back to the Evo 4g LTE . No skipping like a scratched CD and no dropped connections so far, and the phone has better signal strength and call quality.

I appreciate all of your responses, it helped to make a better decision.

Best Regards Everyone!

Agreed... Although I like Sense now that I've ordered and exchange and have a blue GS3 shipping, I wouldn't want it to look/act like an Evo. Sense is such a resource hog IMO that as soon As I got it immediately put Apex on it. Now it fast!!!!!! Waiting patiently for the delivery of my shiny new GS3 :D
