Thanks but that is a little convoluted. I am on 4.1.1 and rooted now.

Will I be able to keep root with voodoo after installing the OTA 4.1.2?

just follow the steps i have listed, you can update from 4.1 all the way to the newest update

Multiple people saying yes, including me. I was able to keep root with voodoo rootkeeper. Just make sure superuser is all up to date.

Didn't work for me, I updated super user binaries and then made a new copy of my root, then I took the 9.16.1 update from verizon and afterwards superuser was uninstalled somehow and my damn root copy wasn't showing on voodoo =/. Also can't revert back to ICS anymore to try to root again.

The update downloaded last night. I tapped the "Install later" button because I wanted to make sure that I had Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper up to date before running the update. Well, the phone shut off and installed the 4.1.2 update anyway. After it finished, I went into OTA and restored root, which worked perfectly.

I'm in the same boat. After the 4.1.2 update I no longer have root (even after restoring with Voodoo) and now I can't use recovery to go back to 4.0.4. Has anyone determined how to get root once the phone is updated to 4.1.2?

It's still only possible to root from 4.0.4, and there isn't a way yet to revert to 4.0.4 from 4.1.2, so you won't be able to root until that's possible.

The method to keep root is the same as when you go from 4.0.4 to 4.1.1 - you have to temp unroot with OTA Rootkeeper (and I think have the latest Superuser binaries), and then take the OTA. But if you're already on 4.1.2 it's too late. My understanding is there are people working on making it possible to revert to 4.0.4 from 4.1.2 though.

For those reading this thread wanting to update to 4.1.2, make sure Superuser is on version 3.1.3 and binaries are updated to 3.1.1. After all Superuser updates are installed, DELETE your old su-backup in voodoo ota rootkeeper. Then do the "protect root" over again, making a new su-backup with the new Superuser files. Then do the temp unroot and proceed to update to 4.1.2. This was a common misstep for many when people were updating to 4.1.1.

I was having problems using Voodoo to keep root, since I had updated to SuperSU.

I uninstalled SuperSU and went back to Superuser; however, it states the su binary is: v1.15:SUPERSU (0). If I try to update the binary within Superuser, it says "Downloading manifest... Fail!" and then crashes.

Nevertheless, it seems Voodoo is working now; I can do Temp Un-Root and Restore Root with no problem. Do I still need to update the binary to the stock superuser 3.1.1 before taking the OTA update, in order to retain root after upgrading to 4.1.2? If so, how can I get the /system/bin/su binary updated without losing root?

Ok, I'll be the first to admit that "I'm talking out of ignorance" ... but aware that it's possible to lose/break my rooted RMHD, I'm wonder about the following:

• My current rooted RMHD is on 4.1.2 with VooDoo backup for root.
• The saved root files are on the external MicroSD card.
• Can I possibly copy these "backup root files" to my hard drive for safe keeping.
• Should I lose/break my RMHD, is it possible to install VooDoo on the new/replacement unrooted 4.1.2 RMHD - and then have VooDoo restore the "root backup" files to the new device ... which would, essentially, root it.

I don't have a device to try this on ... but if VooDoo can unroot and restore root, might it be able to restore root to a previously unrooted device (providing the proper files are provided it on the MicroSC?

[I'm sure there are any number of reasons this won't work - but has anyone tried it? And thanks for "humoring me" in my ignorance!
