I currently have a Family Share Plan in which I share 700 monthly minutes and unlimited texting between 2 phones, my smart phone (main) and my girlfriends basic phone with no data at all and it also has an upgrade available. My main line has my smartphone with UNLIMITED data and obviously I do not want to lose that. I want to upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 once it releases and want to avoid paying full retail if I do not have to. Can I do the following?
1. Use the basic phone upgrade to buy the Note 2.
2. Activate the Note 2 onto the basic phone line which will deactivate the basic phone.
3. Reactivate the basic phone onto its original line which will deactivate the Note 2.
4. Activate the Note 2 on my main line which will keep unlimited data.
I did have an online chat with a VZW specialist and he said that would work just fine but I didn't have a chance to ask him the following: Since the basic line that I will be using the upgrade from did not originally have any sort of data on it, won't I have to, at least temporarily, add data to the line to properly activate the Note 2? And if so, will that cause an ETF when I deactivate the Note 2? And, since the only way to add any sort of data to anything is to first move to the newer Share Everything Plan? <--This would seemingly destroy my main lines unlimited data.
The following is exactly from the online VZW chat I had on 10/31/2012 -
"1. Upgrade the line that is directly eligible now (Basic phone line). 2. When the phone arrives, activate it as if you want it on this basic phone line.
3. Now that you did that you have the old basic phone de-activated. Re-activate the basic phone on it's old line. 4. Now you have the Note 2 de-activated ready to be activated on your line."
What do you all think?
