How are you measuring this increase in, "kernel"?

No never been rooted I just moved to Florida from NJ and it's been higher than normal according to gsam monitor

Could you post a screenshot of your GSam battery monitor screen showing the kernel usage.

GSam call Android OS usage, "kernel". Therefore, something is ramping up your Android OS usage. Do you have any of the following installed?

Apps that auto start or run in the background

1. Facebook

2. BlackBerry Messenger

3. 8 Ball Pool

4. Instagram

5. Messenger

6. WeChat

7. Facebook Pages Manager

8. Oovoo Video Call Text & Voice

9. KakaoTalk Free Calls & Text

10. Vine


Apps that are initiated by the user

1. Spotify

2. Amazon Kindle

3. Line Free Calls & Messages

4. Samsung WatchOn Video

5. Snapchat

6. Netflix

7. SoundCloud Music & Audio

8. CleanMaster Speed Booster

I have the same apps as when I was in NJ but now I'm on a different network and in Florida.

I see that you have at least 3 of the apps I mentioned. These are known battery drainers and performance hogs. See, Facebook and Spotify Music apps are the biggest hogs of your Android phone’s battery, memory, and data. Some of the usage will show up for these under Android OS rather than the app itself.

As to why there should be a difference between the 2 locations... I think you may have hit the nail on the head when you mentioned you were on a different network. Apps such as FaceBook, etc; have data to-ing and fro-ing and also rely on things like location. If your signal is worse than it was before, you would expect some of these apps and services to be continually making a call on Android OS.

Check with your carrier that you have the correct/best APN settings. Try disabling FaceBook, Instagram and Snapchat for a day and see what happens to your Android OS/kernel.

My carrier is still verizon but I'm just on a different WiFi network. Is that what you meant? Thanks for all the advice!

Kernel is still high and it has only been like this since I came to Fl from NJ
