Keyboard & controls freezing

My girlfriend just picked up an HTC Rezound - new (so we were told and as far as we can tell) from Verizon, and as of this afternoon, the keyboard (particularly the letter "a") and other elements - particularly the Home button - are freezing and/or being non-responsive. Has anyone else had this problem?

We've uninstalled all the apps that were installed before this started happening, but it doesn't sound like the type of problem caused by an app. My worry is that it's a defective phone which is rendering specific parts of the touch screen non-responsive.

I forgot to mention, it seems to only be affecting the left side of the device, like the Home button, the letter "a", etc.

I had a non responsive screen today for the first time ever that was solved by a restart... Physical keys worked fine but screen was not cooperative.

We've tried restarts and removing the battery. It may work for a time, but eventually the "a" and the home button become non-responsive again.
