Im currently using a Droid Pro and am likely getting a Nexus. One thing I love about the Pro is the "blackberry" approach to searching for contacts. For instance, you simply start typing the persons name and his contact comes up. But this is impossible to do if you dont have a keyboard. So my question is, is there an app or setting I can use to make a keyboard pop up so I can start searching the phone?

you can use the search key at the top of the home screen to search contacts, apps, music (i think) and the web.

or you can root and throw a ROM on there and add a search key to the bottom row of buttons to do the same.

Yep, at the top of the ICS homescreen is a Google search section (you can't get rid of it). Touch that and start typing and the contacts appear.

You can get rid of it rooted on a custom ROM

It's actually easier than that. You can get rid of the Google search bar by installing a different launcher like Nova or Apex. No root or rom required.
