Keyboard Question

There are instances when my keyboard is different in different applications. Under settings, I only have the Samsung and Swype keyboards, and I've never changed the stock kb or downloaded a new one.

For example, in some apps the kb shows the "@" symbol (without having to hit a button to bring it up) while at other times it does not. Also, while I adjusted the settings on the kb to auto add spaces between words, sometimes it stops doing that.

Does the stock kb behave differently in different apps by design?
