Any way to make keyboard in the sms app not have a damn smiley face. Would love to slide the period over and double the space bar size.

Half the time my sentences look like:
Call.me.later and ill see.if.im home.

That smiley face erks me!!!!!

Maybe handcent or other sms apps use a different keyboard layout and that's the solution?

I've switched over to Better Keyboard, personally. I also have SwiftKey and Swype (the latter comes with the phone), but I just like Better Keyboard. I'm looking forward to trying Blind Type, whenever it comes out, too.

SmartKeyboard Pro doubles the size of the spacebar. I couldn't live without it. I install it on every android phone I get.

Oh lord im going to have to try smart keyboard. This tiny space bar in nearly every keyboard drives me crazy. Been on swiftkey for a couple weeks now

Why is there nor return key on these keyboards? I don't need a second search key, or a smiley key. I haven't seen a return key on the stock Droid X keyboard, or on Smart Keyboard Pro. Is there any way to install a return key?

ETA: Handcent is not an option. I don't want it.

There is a return key on Smart Keyboard Pro. It's all contextual tho. There isn't a return key in apps like Text Messaging or Gtalk...but in an Email or a forum post, the return key shows up because there is an opportunity to need paragraphs or whatever.

Where is the return key in Smart Keyboard Pro? I'm not super computer savvy, what do you mean by "contextual?"

I'd like to decide if I need a return key when texting, (I do), not have the phone do it for me.

What do you need a return key for when you text message? Do you just want it so that you can hit it and send the message or do you use paragraphs when you text?

What I meant by contextual is that it all depends on the type of field you're filling in. On web pages, if you're filling in a forum post like this one, there is a return key in the bottom right corner of the keyboard. Same thing for emails. However, it eliminates it when you're filling in items that wouldn't normally need an enter/return key...like text messages or gtalk messages.

I get that it has one when using e-mail, posting in forums, etc... I want it for texting. Yes, I sometimes would like a break in a text message, as opposed to one long paragraph.

Even the crappy iphone has a return key for SMS. Isn't Android all about choice? I would like to have the choice of a return key, which I'll actually use; instead of a redundant search key, or useless smiley key.

Anybody know how to get the stock keyboard used by the incredible onto the X? I liked the way you could hold the keys down to get to the other functions of the keys, such as the numbers. The X keyboard isn't bad, but it would be nice not to have to hit the switch key when I wanted to type a number.

Thanks!
