I was wondering if Google would eventually make a keyboard available for it. Makes sense since you can access the Internet with it.

The player supports Bluetooth 4.1, and from what I have read in other blogs is that 3rd party game pads will work, I would imagine 3rd party bluetooth keyboards and mice will work as well. I think if you get an Android compatible device it should work. Thats what I am hoping.

Does it have an internet browser? I didn't think that Chrome was installed on the Nexus Player though I could be wrong.

One other note is I believe the device needs to be Bluetooth 3.0 or better to work with 4.1, at least that is my understanding. Another alternative is a phone app one is called Android TV remote, I am sure more will be available.

Looks like it should, it really is a bluetooth version issue. I found this site called bluetoothreport dot com and posted this question, I was told that 3.0+ of bluetooth will work with 4.1.

My personal experience with other android players, is a mouse was more functional than a keyboard. The only time I really wanted a keyboard was if I was using a browser (only for the initial search) or the initial set up of XBMC TV show preferences. Since the nexus player has voice search for at least some apps Google Play and Netflix (for now) and an app (Android remote TV) for keyboard entry, not sure the real need for a keyboard.

It obviously depends on how you will use the player, but I originally bought a wifi keyboard and mouse and found I relied mostly on the mouse. Again that is my personal experience and use case.

To be fair though, previous experience with Android player devices have either been simple boxes running Android or were part of the Google TV world and run completely different software than the Nexus Player (Android TV). Before, they kind of required a keyboard as the OS was built around keyboard and mouse input. Android TV was built around voice input as well as being controlled from the simple Nexus Player controller. If it's anything like the Apple TV and Roku devices, a simple keyboard will pop up that's easy to navigate. A keyboard will only be helpful when searching using a Nexus Player, that is unless it runs Chrome. Even then the virtual keyboard would likely suffice for typing in a web address.

True ATV is designed for the remote, but once you get into a browser/website a mouse is required to navigate.
