AC Question

Looking to tether my kids to my phone so we can all play together (separate Pokemon Go accounts).

Is anyone else doing this now?
What kids tablet would be best for this?

At the moment tethering an Ampe A695 and working fine....but not kid friendly because no kid case available.

Was thinking of a Dragon Touch 7"....

Welcome to Android Central! I'd avoid those off-brand devices, since quality control and support will usually be worse. You can probably find a good deal on a 2013 Nexus 7, which is still a good device, and there are plenty of kid-friendly cases you can find online (this is what I got for my 7 year old daughter for around $120).

I also found this refurbished Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite on Groupon Goods for $85: groupon.com/deals/gg-samsung-galaxy-tab-3-lite-8gb-7-tablet-with-android-os-refurbished

The 2013 is a solid choice nice battery and works well when playing pokemon tethered to my phone and that's 3 of them.
If you look on eBay you can get a 6GB data sim for £15 I use one in my dual sim phone and so far it looks like it will last 2 months at this rate.

For what it's worth I have a 2013 Nexus 7 and I was going to load Pokémon Go on it for my son. But for whatever reason when I pulled it up in the play store it said it was not compatible. I ended up just loading it on his Nabi Dreamtab instead. Which works just fine, but it is super bulky to carry around everywhere. I am seriously considering getting him a very inexpensive cell phone to use instead. I was considering something like either a Huawei Honor 5X or a Moto G.

Keep in mind that the 2015 Moto G (i.e., 3rd gen) doesn't have a gyro, so he wouldn't be able to use the AR mode.

Ahh, I didn't realize that. Thanks for the heads up. I was just looking at the third gen Moto G on Amazon. I really liked the fact that they are water resistant.

Did you do anything special to get the Dreamtab working with Pokémon GO? We cannot get ours working (Settings > About tablet > Model number > DMTAB-IN08A). The issue is that as soon as the app is launched, there is a brief white screen that goes back to the main Android screen, and then the "Unfortunately, Pokémon GO has stopped" message appears. Any information is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

That's strange, it works fairly well on my son's Nabi. All I did was install it from the play store and it fired right up and worked fine. The only thing I can suggest is try uninstalling it and reinstalling it. Although for what it's worth we were having trouble trying to log into the app with his Nabi yesterday. I just assumed it was a server issue, but it is possible they may have changed something in a recent update that broke compatibility. I will check it again tonight and make sure it is still working.

Also as a side note for whatever reason I still could not install it from the play store on my Nexus 7. So last night I ended up just downloading the .apk and side-loading it. I can't imagine why it says it's incompatible from the Google Play store because it works very well on the Nexus tablet. Originally I was hesitant to use this method because apparently there are lots of malware spiked versions floating around, but I am fairly confident that I was able to find a good one. Although just to be safe I pulled all of my personal info off of that tablet. Still hopefully this will just be a temporary fix and they will fix whatever caused it to be incompatible so I can download the official app from the play store.

Sorry I didn't update this sooner but I just double checked last night and it still works just fine on my Son's Nabi DreamTab. I'm not sure why it is giving you issues, maybe there are just too many things running on your tablet at the same time. I limit the number of apps that we install on my son's Nabi and I try to constantly remove older apps that he doesn't use anymore especially whenever installing something that uses a lot of power to run... like Pokémon Go.

Hello my daughter also has a Nabi Dream tab but the app will not even open, it just says it has stopped. Is there a permission or something I have to do on her Nabi to make the app work?? Thanks for the help!
