kids mode/pin app question

Is there any way to pin an app open but have it require a pin to unlock? The current method is to hold down back and recent button which would be fine except it tells us that when we just the home button, and since eight year olds can read...
Anything like that? I want simple. I tried the kids mode apps and they are made for five year olds.
Maybe I can turn my old N8 into a kid friendly tablet.

A kiosk app, maybe? Try a few of the free ones at Play. (Search kiosk.)

I'll give them a look. it bugs me because Samsung used to have this option. When I was rooting and roming there was a ton of great apps that did this with button combos.
