Has anyone heard anything about the Kinda Blue color being available in an unlocked version anytime soon? I will be looking to buy a Pixel 2 in the next month or so and am really liking this color. I am on Verizon but would really prefer an unlocked version. Thanks

Why would you prefer the "unlocked" version? Just curious.

Less bloatware if I'm not mistaken.

There is no bloatware on the phones. At most if you get the Verizon variant (it has been a hit or miss) you may get 2-3 apps installed from Verizon. They all can be fully uninstalled. Other then that there is nothing else and the phones are identical.

The only true difference with unlocked VS. the VZW Variant is the VZW one has the bootloader locked (for rooting/ROM/etc.) but if you don't do that then it won't matter.

Oh, well in that case thanks very much for the info because that means I don't really have any reason to not get the Verizon version. lol

It's been a while since I have got a new phone. I'm still on my 2013 Moto X. I love the phone but it's showing its age.

The only difference really in the Verizon version, apart from the un-unlockable bootloader, is that it comes with a Verizon sim and 3 apps pre-installed, all of which can be easily uninstalled.

Yes .. that is what I said ^_^.

Haha yeah that is why I wanted to ask... So that way you can get your phone now versus waiting. If you were big into rooting then I would wait for the unlocked one but if not I say snag your phone and enjoy ^_^.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I haven't rooted a phone since my Droid Incredible so those days are behind me. lol

You will love the Pixel 2. I'm coming from a 2014 Moto X and the speed increase is really nice. The camera blows away the Moto X cameras, especially for indoor lighting. Call quality is better for me as well. Basically the only downside is the slightly bigger bezels, I wish they would have made the screen about 5.3" so it is slightly wider and then make it slightly shorter.

Google says that they will have the unlocked version of the Kinda Blue one "early next year," whatever that means. I was told this about two weeks ago so I don't know if there's any change to that timeframe yet.

The updates for the Verizon variant comes from Verizon, rather than from Google, but they seem to arrive at the close to the same timfeframe–at least that's what some OG Pixel owners have said.

Verizon phone from Best Buy on Cricket, zero bloatware, Google startup logo no Verizon

Correct. The updates have been coming simultaneously.

Correct the Verizon Pixel is no different then the unlocked one in terms of this.

Since everyone is asking about a Verizon phone, I had a question. Are you able to buy a phone from Verizon without being a Verizon subscriber? I tried the other day and the guy at the store said I couldn't. Was he just not wanting to deal with me or is that truly the policy. I mean I would think Verizon and Google would want to sell phones regardless of being on Verizon or not. My Wife wanted a kinda blue, settle for ordering a Black one through Fi.

It was available unlocked straight from Google in Canada since launch day. It's sold out now though. I managed to snag a pre-order. Ships on the 20th.

Have any relatives in Canada? Hehe.

You want to walk in and pay cash for the phone sure, or just purchase it Direct online

Then I guess the guy at the store was lying to me. That jerk. Oh well wife said it wasn't really blue enough for her anyway, so she is ok with the black one we have on order.

That isn't correct. You have to have a Verizon account to do both of these... Unless you mean Direct Online as in "Google" then that would be allowed, yes, but not from Verizon's online website.

No he is correct. You can order the "Verizon version" from the Google store online to have it shipped to you but you won't be able to buy from Verizon without being a Verizon customer.

This goes for all carriers. I can't walk into T-Mobile and buy a phone full price. They won't allow it unless i am a current customer or a new one signing up.
