Kindle Fire HD not showing menu or battery

Rebooting gives me everything but the actual menu bar, that one pulls down. Also, no battery use bar. My apps are all present, and the ones I downloaded are fine, but connecting to the web, or using anything else just nets a black screen. I can't even set to factory specs. Any advice would be fantastic

Have you modified or rooted the unit? You may need to do a hard reset. Also try cleaning out your cache on all apps with something like Lancaster.
