Kindle Fires in Canada

Looking at picking one up some Kinds Fire for Kids and maybe a Kindle Fire HD 8 for myself and I'm wondering what the support is for it like in Canada since it's not technically available here.

Any issues with apps on the tablet not working? Does Alexa work on the latest version? Does the warranty still apply to the devices. I'm guessing I'd have to send it from the US for returns.

The Kids Fire has free damage repair guarantee.

Any thoughts?
