Hi all! I have a Galaxy S5 on Verizon. I usually never update unless it's a big change but I woke up in the middle of the night and accidentally hit the "install now" since I was barely awake :( Ever since then I have noticed the phone lagging everywhere. In applications, when exiting applications, going to the next song or previous one and typing. It's only sometimes but it's annoying when I have to wait 3 or 4 seconds for it to exit an app or change a song. I had no problems before and this is a big reason why i switched from an iPhone. What's going on? I don't want to downgrade and go through all that trouble. Will there be another update soon?

My GS5 on Verizon has been fine on 4.4.4. Of course I debloated the phone and I use nova. I having noticed any lag yet. I came from a 2013 Moto X that was very snappy..

It's funny because my phone actually sped up after upgrading to 4.4.4. 4.4.3 was a laggy experience and I had nothing but Bluetooth audio problems. I upgraded to 4.4.4 and it operates faster (no lag on my end but I also use the Google Launcher), fixed Bluetooth audio crashing, and has been an all around better experience.

What music app are you using? I did notice lag with Poweramp and still do, that's with the app though and they have yet to even acknowledge problems.

I will try rebooting/clearing cache. @P_Devil , I am using the stock music app, but I am experiencing the lag on every application and scrolling through menus and the mains screen

I don't think that you "hit the install button", I told Verizon NO, NO, NO, NO for six weeks..... and then they forced it thru regardless of your and mine wishes.

After the fact though, things are better on 4.4.4 than they were on 4.4.2 and the phone is at least as fast, if not maybe more so that it was before.

Try installing Nova Launcher, it has a Home Screen Toggle widget that you can use to go back and forth between TouchWiz and Nova, so you won't feel all lost until you get used to Nova....

I am willing to bet that some of your slowness is related to TouchWiz, or maybe you have not Restarted the phone since the update?

Nova has an Import feature that can keep your TouchWiz screens including folders, so you will NOT have to rebuild the look and feel of the phone. That was a great selling point for me when considering Nova....

Restarts and wipes help when ROMs are in question, they do require some time to "settle" also.

nope i remember it was 3 am and my eyes were barely open and it started updating lol. I prefer to stay with the regular touchwiz as i'm used to it (especially coming from ios). I am 100% sure that I can wipe it clean and start over I'd have no problems. But I have lots of media and stuff I don't want to put back on, and lots of game memory saved I don't want to lose :/. It was getting better for a bit but is lagging again. Most noticeably when listening to music the song will pause for 3 or 4 seconds and hen continue, like it's buffering, that's the most annoying thing currently

Is there anyway to back up everything , wipe and reinstall like on ios? Most important for me to keep is the messages and app data

I have also tried that cleaner in the app store that supposed to help make the device quicker, but if anything it made it a whole lot slower so I got rid of it

Thanks!
