Lag fix

So I ran it on windows and was getting the same errors until I moved the ryan's fix files to the desktop and opened from there, magically it worked?! Thanks for your response. I have another question since running benchmarks after the lag fix. Why is the quadrant score so good while I only get an 8 in linpack? I saw that someone else noticed this as well. Could anyone explain that? Thanks so much everyone I'm new to android and any kind of hacking or tinkering as well, never even used terminal before rooting my fascinate.

I am getting around low 9 in linpack but we are on 2.1 look at any 2.1 device thats what they get on linpack. Linpack only tests cpu and the lag fix has nothing to do with the cpu

oh I see... so when we get 2.2 froyo that will increase the efficiency of the cpu somehow? Thanks for your answers!

Yes on froyo they use the JIT compiler which eliminates alot of useless machine code making it more efficient and able to run less commands to get more done. This makes the cpu more efficient and able to handle more and get higher linpack scores. If you want more info check out this write up

ok so I just did the lag fix... I tried using RyanZA's one-click-lag-fix from the market to root and lag fix but the root didn't work... had to use Diirks root steps for that part, then the EXT2 and lag-fix options in RyanZA's app worked great... had about an 850ish quadrant before... now have 2173. I used about 750mb in the lag-fix.

Nice work guys!

I wound up changing the file size to 500MB instead of 1GB. Quadrant hit 2250 and newsrob no longer lags, so I guess it's working. :D

hey all - newb here - just got rooted w/ cory's help (im on a mac). can someone explain what this lag fix is? what are quandrant scores and linpack? my fascinate seems to be running really well - but i dont wanna miss out...

Chime in if I'm completely off on this, but to my understanding the lag fix basically allows you to allocate more memory for running applications and processes, which allows your device to operate more smoothly and decrease "lag"...

Do I have that right?

No the lag fix is for your /data directory which your apps use to store...u guessed it...data. A stock devices /data directory is using an old filesystem and its access times are quick but do not support multitasking very efficiently. So basically what you end up getting is your contacts list is waiting for your facebook app to stop saving the new facebook updates into its data area. The lag fix adjusts this by making various loop partitions to hold your /data and allow for much quicker access by multiple apps.

Thanks again for your guide Dirrk. I wound up using the busybox installer right from the market after root, worked perfectly.

Will this fix always use our app space? Or will there ever be an alternative? I only used 500MB and it seems to be working just fine, so it's not as big a deal as originally thought...but it'd be nice to get that back for Rage. :D

Hopefully when we get a kernel developed we could potentially have it fixed but I doubt it seeing how all the other galaxys have not fixed it without these types of methods
