I am interested in learning android development and i want to know what languages are used for android development and which is the onei should start with. I want to know all of them (mainly because it will help me in high school and collage) and because i want to get into android development.

What part of Android developement? Android apps are all written in Java, but Android itself is primarily written in C. If you're just staring out in programming, I'd say start with Java. C has a reputation of being among the more difficult programming languages to learn.

Also, if you learn Java first, you can write simple Android apps to prove to yourself that you've learned the conepts and are a real programmer. It sounds silly, but there's a real moment of personal pride when you write a program and it compiles and works correctly.

I was thinking more along the lines of from development. Thats what I want to do when I get out of collage, go into Android development. I guess it would be useful to know how to dev apps. But all the Android dev books are on app development not from development.

You need to know how to develop apps too if you plan on developing android at all, because although Android's foundation may be C, without Java, it's useless. Devs have told me how much they wish they knew more Java.

That said, I'm interested in development like you. I'm in college, and although I don't plan to code for droids when I'm out, I'd like to fund my college expenses by coding apps. I've learned a minuscule amount (enoughgi release simple apps), but I figure games is the way to go. In fact yesterday I found an incredible site by an app dev that codes on basically all the platforms. He has video tutorials on everything and they're made for people that know nothing so even if you have no code XP you'll be able to follow. http://www.mybringback.com/tutorials/
I suggest watching the 40 android tutorials on it. I plan on it because I have a problem understanding different methods although I do have some Java under my belt.

Watch the tutorials and see if you really want to code android.

cool thanks, will check it out when i have more time and when i'm on my desktop. Stupid little netbook isn't worth a crap for anything but facebook and android stuff since its running lubuntu.

I think you should dive right into app development. You'll learn a lot about Java, of course, but you'll also learn a lot about the Android API. This will continue to be useful in the event that you move on to ROM development. All the basic programming principles that you learn in Java will provide an excellent foundation for C as well. Remember, Google can answer just about any question you've got, and if you're anything like me, you'll find yourself at stackoverflow.com constantly. Good luck!

This. Google any code question you have and there's a 99% chance one of the first hits in Google will be a thread on stackoverflow. And then there's a 99% chance you can pretty much copy and paste code right from stack into your source.

A LOT of android is also c++ you start where you want. I had absolutely no coding XP whatsoever when I first started building.

You really don't need any books. There is a practically endless supply of tutorials and lessons available online.
