I have switched to the Note 20 Ultra as my primary device for the time being. I still use my S21 Ultra, though. I miss having a Note-style device, especially one with Micro SD card support. I have my wife's old 512gb memory card in it which despite having thousands of pictures, still has 477 GB of memory left. I definitely miss this advantage of older devices, and like the old school feel of the Note 20 Ultra.

That said, I am a bit bummed that the supposed last security update will be coming soon, if my assumptions are correct? I got a July 1st update, so I am not entirely sure how this will play out since I thought the last update was coming in August.

To be honest, even with the security updates "ending," I am not really too concerned about using this device for awhile. It's on Android 13, with apps still frequently being updated, so it's not like it's ridiculously old or outdated technically. If I was using a device that was outdated by years, like the Note 8, Note 9, then yeah, I might be hesitant. I still sometimes use my S10e that was given to me, which as far as I can tell, hasn't gotten security updates for a long time.

I have still seen people using the Note 8, S8 series or S7 devices. To me, if your device is that old... I feel like it's probably being held together by duct tape and I wouldn't be using a device that old personally lol

It is only rumor and speculation that the August security update is the last monthly update. Even if it is the device will continue to receive quarterly security patches. In either case as long as the Play Store apps are maintained on the latest version there should be no issues.

Quarterly? Since when? It's been four years since the Note 20 Ultra has been released. Isn't that it for it's update cycle? From what I recall, the August security patch would be the final one it gets overall. Not quarterly.

So, yeah... I was indeed wrong! it seems somewhere along the line, Samsung screwed up the Note 20U/Note 20 security patch cycle. It kind of sounds like the Note 20 series will get quarterly updates until August or Sept of next year. That's fantastic.

Certainly! I don't know if it will go for the next year, but I would assume for the next 6 months.
I was pretty bummed out initially, considering I just got this device. I'm not a fan of the analogy though of having to immediately abandon a device just because it stops getting security patches.

It depends on a number of factors IMO. The Note 20U is still on a relatively newer version of Android, and Google Play services will still be getting updates for quite awhile, so it's not like any apps will be outdated or anything for awhile.

Also, from what I can tell, if there is a really bad security issue, Samsung will send out a security update for it, even if it's out of support. I've seen it before. I think I remember seeing the S7 years back get one, despite being years out of software and security support. I can't recall when this happened exactly, though.
