Latitude updating ridiculously frequently

For the past two days or so, latitude has been updating location very frequently, as much as twice a minute even though the phone isn't moving. This is not normal behavior (it's only supposed to update once an hour or so when the phone isn't moving).

I suspect this is leading to very short battery life - I'm down to a couple of hours with the extended 2730 mAh battery now. Has anyone else seen this problem?

Couple hours on the extended?!?!?!?!?! That should be lasting you like 24hrs or more.... Yeah something's up. Someone else on here suggested using "where's my Droid power" from the market. It will tell you what's eating what % of battery. Pretty cool and thx to the original poster of that.

In this case I'm fairly sure that it's the latitude updates that are doing it, battery life was normal until the continuous rapid updates started happening.

How can I tell when software was updated on android? Is there a history? I'd like to see if this coincides with a google maps update.

if you believe it's a GoogleMaps issue (since Latitude is an attachment of Maps), you could always uninstall the last update of Maps and see if that fixes it.

menu>settings>applications>manage applications>Downloaded>Maps>Uninstallupdates (also, this screen will show you what version of Maps you have --ie 5.2.1)

wondering waht the last version of Maps brought to Android and what features you're uninstalling? search for your Maps version (in my case, 5.2.1)

Thanks! Reverting to the factory version of maps (5.0) seen to have fixed the problem.

Edit -

Post reboot the problem returned, multiple updates a minute even on 5.0
