I'm coming from iphone and I really miss being able to launch siri by holding down the home button. Saying "ok google" is annoying and doesn't always work. Is there some way to make either the power or volume buttons activate the google voice search?

This probably won't apply to you, but this is one of the nice functions of an Android Wear watch. I can do a Google Now command through my watch without having to unlock the phone.

You can set the 5x to "always listening" (similar to what moto does) but it is less secure (uses trusted voice to unlock the phone). I'm pretty sure the OP knows this though and he does not want to depend on OK Google to initiate the search. I have no idea if that is possible.

Another thing to consider is to use a Bluetooth headset. On at least some of them, pressing one of the buttons can activate voice commands.

I have the voice search icon on every home screen--that helps too, assuming the screen is up.

I don't think I've seen anything that allows you to use the button but you can swipe from the bottom left hand side of the lock screen to bring up voice search.

I've posted a feature request. Please comment and star it so the Android team takes notice.

In your filing you added a comment,"BTW, this is not keeping the OK Google voice command listening at all times. That drains the battery and makes my 5x hot in my pocket."

I've had "always listening" enabled on previous phones and it is enabled currently on my 5X - I'm not seeing any excessive battery drain, nor does my 5X (or previous phone) get hot. It seems like you may have something else going on with your device.
