LauncherPro/Other UI's

Ok I have gone through the other threads and cannot find the answer to my questions so maybe I can get them all answered in one thread

1. I could possibly be interested in using LP...how do I turn off the stock UI or can I even do that? Will it always be running in the background?? Do LP users notice any battery drain from using this and if so what are some basic things I need to tweak/turn off to prevent this?

2. On the "Post your Droid X Screens" thread I'm noticing some pretty b!tch!'n customizable docks and other things. How do I customize these docks or are they searchable in the app itself?? (Don't have it yet)

Basically I'm trying to decide if I want to re-vamp my phones look...I like my background...but I'm more concerned with replacing my dock with something more customizable. Hell maybe I don't even need LP or anything else to do that. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I used stock launcher for about a week then heard awesome stuff about launcher pro. Bought it and haven't looked back. I have not noticed any barry drain. Overall feels smoother and highly customizable. I am not sure you could disable the stock launcher without a replacement?

I'd say to head over to the LP forums at LauncherPro ? and look under the themes section, there's lots of info on how to customize your dock.

Also, while I believe some of the basic blur items do load up even when using LP, it's still very fast and smooth on the X in my experience.

Its painless. plus if you find you don't like it, uninstalling it is incredibly simple.

Just clear all Widgets and screens from the original launcher then you'll be fine.

There really is no reason to not use launcher pro. It's free, so much better, and smoother high quality scrolling. You can always just remove it.

I'd suggest getting the paid version, the widgets that are specific to it are awesome.

Wow I just tried it out (actually upgraded to LP Plus for resizeable widgets) and it is WAY smoother than the motoblur. I've only had it for 30 mins and I love it...however I still have a couple questions.

For the LauncherPro Widgets of Contacts and Bookmarks...I have all of my favorite contacts linked to their FB pictures yet their pictures do not show up on the widget....why?

How do I edit the bookmarks for the bookmark widget?

You need to get an app from the market called SyncMyPix to link the photos from FB to your contact widget in LP+.

Haven't tried changing my bookmarks widget...but check in their forums for answers.

Any reason as to why I cannot open Launcher Pro after I download it? I know Launcher Pro says to download "Home Switcher" if Launcher Pro doesn't open, but is it the same?

I had launcherpro for this afternoon. I didn't like it too much as you can't resize the widgets. Well, you can if you buy the plus version. I deleted it and went back to stock.

I did a little work around. I created a group in Google Contacts and then chose that group with the LP Pro People Widget. The pictures from those contacts showed up in the widget.

Quick question since this is the 'latest' LP thread. Does anyone know why every morning when I turn my X on, the slideshow widget is black? This is not a big deal to me as it reminds me change my pix every day. But still I have to delete the app and replace it on the homescreen it every time I turn on the phone.

The default launcher is Stock. If you get HomeSwitcher, you can set the default to LauncherPro and you can switch launchers on the fly.

I'm using LauncherProPlus and all my widgets (Blur, Android, and LPP) are resizable. I know you have access to the special LPP widgets if you buy the Plus version, but I think the Blur widgets should be resizable even in the free version.

Found that launcherpro doesn't like live wallpapers - the very smooth and fluid motion of the UI is reduced to choppy and slow when a live wallpaper is engaged.

Launcherpro also does not update the calendar widget

Check out ADW Launcher if you are still looking for other options. The launcher is free, but there are some Paid themes, I paired this up with Beautiful Widgets and I am loving it. It runs very smooth as well.

I prefer ADW.Launcher because for me, it's got 2 features that are amazing.. swype up on the screen and swype down.

anywhere on the launcher's screen I can swype down and it'll bring down the notificiation bar.. swype up and it opens gesture search. These 2 actions are customizable!

I haven't had issues with slowdown using live wallpapers with LP. It's very smooth for me. I have noticed that the stock calendar doesn't update for me either.
