Launchers

Not currently using any launcher in particular - well, I sort of am, I suppose, with my EMUI Theme Editor, if that counts! - but I've dabbled in a couple. I particularly liked Arrow Launcher

I used that on the Galaxy S2 (wow, that's old! haha) and while at first it looked cool (still miss the rolodex-like 3D contact/Social Media widget), it was just too buggy. Then I found Nova and completely ditched Next 3D.
Would you consider it worth the price out of pocket?

I'm really happy with Nova Prime. I caught it a few months ago when it was on sale for 99¢

I did at the time... But it wasn't 16 bucks back then, I think I paid 5 or 6. Still expensive by today's app standards, mind you, but at the time I thought it was worth it. Now, I'd think twice (and then re-think and check again before clicking Submit). It is a cool-looking launcher, but it's starting to show its age, and from what I remember (and the update status on the Play Store can attest to that; last update was over 6 months ago) it isn't as continuously updated as other free/cheaper offers. It's also not as customizable, and it WILL drain your battery more since it's very 'graphical', no matter how optimized they've made it. If you're into the 3D look, then it does the job. Whether or not that's worth 16 bucks, I'm not sure anymore.

I think you more than answered my question! Thank you!

Honestly, I wouldn't buy it out of pocket. If I had the rewards credits to buy it with, then I'd still consider it. Like I mentioned earlier, it runs buttery smooth and error free on the V20 and other phones I've had. My biggest gripe with it is the backup function is pretty much broken and non-functional. That doesn't personally bother me much since I'd rarely use it.

I'm also not that bothered by the lack of updates. For the most part, the app just works, and works well. I don't even really notice any additional battery drain. I'm sure there's some, but not enough to get bothered over. By comparison all the other launchers look about the same to me, which is about the same as most stock launchers. If you want something really unique, out doesn't get much more so than this.

If you're on the fence, check out the free version. It's a two week, fully functioning trial. Definitely have to give them credit for that.

True, I remember now, I used it for two weeks then jumped on the license. Also, if you want 'something unique' but can forego the over-the-top 3D aspect, I suggest you take a look at Themer. It doesn't have the customization level of Nova in terms of icon spacing, app drawer, etc. but it DOES radically change the way your phone feels and looks. And each theme is radically different from the next. On my experience it can get buggy sometimes, though, depending on the theme you apply, but it's also an option out there. IIRC Themer is free.

I have always used Nova Prime on all my phones. I decided to try the stock launcher with app drawer on the V20 and I must say I think the phone feels more responsive. There are no pauses at all like I experienced with the LG G3 and V10 stock launchers and of course TouchWiz. I like the customization options Nova gives me, but the LG software seems highly optimized for this phone. I installed the Pixel V20 dark theme from the Play Store and I am really enjoying the phone even more now. I really like how LG added the option to resize the display icons so that the LG stock icons do not seem so cartoonishly large.

Well, I downloaded Next 3D again for the fun of it, and I can definitely say now it's NOT worth 16 bucks. No way! It feels like every feature I want to use asks me to download one more app from the GO Family (known for shady ad practices and some rumors of data mining) and the one feature I liked before, the 3D Rolodex for contacts/social media is gone. Nope, I wouldn't pay this much for just a 3D launcher with even more ads for more apps inside.

Which features are those? The only one I had to download another app for was Switch to get the knock off/lock gesture ability (which I think other launchers need with their own side apps on LG phones).

Each and every widget now it's a separate download. The weather widget prompts you to yet another GO app to see the weather detail. Themes are extra app downloads from the Play Store, 3 out of 5 I tried asked me to install GO Locker before I could apply them.

Wow, ok. I installed a theme, but wasn't really considering it an app. I get your point there. I also use Weather Bug's widget, so I'd have downloaded an extra app for weather either way. I don't use the Next one.
