Leaked 2.2 vs Official 2.2

For those that have been enjoying the leaked 2.2 on the DX (like I have), and then reverted back to 2.1 so you could load this new 2.2 OTA update -- have you noticed anything different? Was it worth the trouble?

I'm on the fence whether to update or not. My DX works fine on the leak. One more question - what are the risks of not updating? Do you think us leakers will continue to be blocked from all future OTA updates? What about trouble it might cause when we finally get a way past the bootloader lock and be able to overclock?

Comments anyone?

I'm leaked, device works absolutely perfect, no issues I've seen so far, updated my build.prop and get GREAT battery life while using it all day long.

To me? No benefit. my 3G hotspot works, 720p video recording, flash works, auto updating market works, I see all apps(nonprotected and protected), no random reboots..device works great.

Same here. I am definitely waiting to SFB 2.1, then upgrade and re root. I upgrade my wifes DX and shes had a few minor issues. But then others have had the BootLoop issue. So Ill give it time to see if VZW or Moto is fixing anything. My Wireless Tether Works, Apps, ROM Manager, etc. To me, I see no reason to right now.

I reverted back and then updated to the official 2.2. Here is my 2 cents, coming from a user with previous Blackberry experience and limited Droid.

My intention was to ultimately root my Droid X when I had more experience manipulating the phone. I had the leaked 2.2, unrooted, so no matter what I was going to have to return to 2.1 to root. Today I saw that 2.2 Official was a couple modification above the leaked version. This told me Motorola had done some upgrades which made me inclined to desire the benefits of any improvements made to 2.2. I also discovered 2.2 Official could be rooted with the same method to root the Droid 2. Bottom line in my book, there was no downside for me to running 2.2 Official.

Look at my post today for links to the instructions on how to revert to 2.1 and to root 2.2 Official. I have not rooted yet. If you follow the instructions for reverting they work perfectly.

After a couple hours of play with 2.2 official I am noticing the phone does running a little smoother and there is no longer the lag in my pop up app menu.

I am also going to try running without ATK for a little while to see if the moderator's suspicions are true with regard to it not being of any benefit.

D2VW14_20,

the boot loop issue is remedied by wiping the memory and clearing the cache before booting into recovery.

There are several people on my other forum that Cache wipe doesnt help. Its either stuck in bootloop or black screen.

I would hold off until there is a workable sbf to go back if things don't go as planned. There really isn't anything in the OTA that the leak didn't have. This OTA only amplified the problems I was having on the leak.
At this time I regret updating.

Can you explain a little more? what was bad that's now worse?

Critical bugs:
Freezing during call, basically no buttons work but the call is still in progress. Also happens during an incoming call with no way to answer it. Battery pull fixes it, sometimes letting it sit for a few minutes it will unfreeze.
Before OTA on leak 1, this problem occurred but was cured with a factory reset. With OTA no matter how many times I reset the problem persists.

Not so critical but annoying:
Music player refuses to play any music, 'unsupported file type' even Pandora throws a fit and won't play. Reboot is the only way to fix this.
Before OTA the problem would occur once or twice a week. With OTA multiple times a day.
Music player still doesn't understand ID3 meta data in AAC files. Album art doesn't show up, songs are displayed out of order and or play out of order.
On 2.1 album art work, songs were displayed out of order but would play in order. On Leak 2.2 album art disappeared on all AAC albums, some more were out of order. OTA all AAC albums are out of order. Other formats seem to be ok.

Wifi does not connect automatically.
Before OTA wifi connected and worked 95% of the time, on 2.1 it was about 30%. With OTA it took a few steps back to about 50%. Android notifies that wifi is available and even shows my WAP in the list, but refuses to auto connect. The only way to correct it is to toggle the wifi off and back on.

I am seeing many on this forum that are not having such problems and perhaps this could be a hardware problem. I am considering getting it replaced, but if the replacement still has 2.1 I am not updating to the OTA version of 2.2 until there is a surefire way to revert.

I noticed I incurred a SD card error (after a reboot) and just before I was able to play my music. I'm wondering if something with interaction with the SD card is causing this error.

While I just discovered that I've gotten bitten by this bug, the upgrade was very seamless. Before this, I didn't really ever reboot my phone.

Yes, I sometimes have problems with the media player with the leaked 2.2. Your comments about the official 2.2 problems with the media player (which I use everyday driving to work) is the main reason I plan to wait it out with the leaked version.
