I want to start off by saying that this should probably be in the Fi Forms but I doubt that it will get much recognition there.
I purchased a Nexus 6P about a month ago through Project Fi. I love this phone. It is the best phone I have ever owned hands down. However, I hate my new carrier. Fi is a wonderful idea with terrible execution. Or at least it is terrible in my (admittedly semi rural) area. There is both Sprint and T-Mobile LTE in this area yet my phone sits useless when away from WiFi because it refuses to connect to either. I have had about 6 calls to customer support that have led to very temporary and limited fixes but nothing permanent. I can do a SIM reset in my sleep now I am pretty sure but I digress. Basically Fi isn't working out.
When I purchased the device, I added the optional device protection for $5 a month. I assumed that this would basically be the same as the Nexus Protect program you can sign up for when buying the phone from the Google Store just with different pricing options. Turns out, Google is multiple entities that apparently do not communicate with each other or the larger whole. When I called to cancel, I wanted them to just switch me to the Nexus protect program but was informed that that is not how this works. I really need rid of Fi but want to keep some protection because I have a terrible habbit of breaking phones. Especially large ones. And even if this thing gets through a year unscathed, I want to break it and get a brand new one so that I can sell it as new to finance my Nexus 7P (Or 6Q/n++randomLetterOfTheAlphabet) (Ha Alphabet when I am complaining about Google not operating as a whole).
So I have some ideas:
1. I see about getting a data only sim and just not using the data so that I still have a Fi account but don't pay for anything other than the protection.
2. I use a third party protector
3. I sell this and buy a new one from the Google store (I do have my eye on that sexy new gold option)
4. ???
So if any one has any other ideas or think any of my plans would work/would work better than the others, I would greatly appreciate your help. Thanks in advance
