Leaving Behind for the GN

I am coming from an OG Droid. It's on its last legs running 2.3.7, but the software has way outpaced the hardware on this thing. I am looking forward to an improvement of every aspect of this phone - more RAM, faster CPU, HD screen, bigger screen, 4G, thinner, lighter, new OS, not having to delete an app when I want to install a new one and most importantly, being able to run apps like Maps, camera and Angry Birds without force closing or reboots.

My first smartphone was an HTC 8125, next was a Blackberry Curve then and current phone the OG Droid.

My Droid is still great but has two problems, I constantly run into low memory situations now and have to go move things and clear the memory. I also have an intermittent charging problem where the phone just won't accept a charge. I'm not rooted and am running Froyo 2.2.3.

I plan to have some fun with the Nexus by rooting it and learning more about the power of the device and Android.

I'll be leaving behind my Samsung Rogue (non-smartphone) and stepping into an Android phone for the first time. At this point in its life, my Rogue will not do anything on the internet - it actually does a reboot if it tries to load a webpage.

Unlimited text/pics, unlimited data - gone. I doubt they'd grandfather me in for unlimited data seeing that I'm not coming from a smartphone plan currently. Not that I mind - I'm not a power user like some people around here. That 4GB package will be plenty for me.

Droid Bionic.

I really like the Bionic but the signal loss is really starting to get to me and I've been waiting for a Nexus device on Verizon for sometime. I usually get a new phone every 6 months but I'm hoping this phone can last me at least a year before I get the itch to upgrade.

droid x love it but just could not hold up it was water damaged since march and was hoping it will hold up my upgrade date was 11/30 and on 12/1 it died so I had no choice but to do a insurance claim since a need a smartphone for work and the nexus is not out I figure I can sell it for 50 on ebay when I get the nexus in a few weeks.

Bionic. It's slowly grown on me to the point that I do like it, but nowhere close to a level that would stop me from getting the Nexus. My wife is on an iPhone 4, so she'll be getting the Bionic.

to the original poster:

You have me beat. I'm on a Storm 2. Been closely following the Bionic's development and release, as well, but will probably wind up going with the GN. The big selling point for me at this point is the prospect of ongoing developer support for the forseeable life of the phone. That is something that other phones will have a hard time matching. I worry that the Bionic will be dropped like a hot potato in short order. Been through that once with the Storm 2 and trying to avoid that experience this time ;-)

I'm using a Fascinate and still love it. Not quite sure when I'll upgrade now that xmas has eaten into me my phone fund. Would've been fine if they released two weeks ago. Oh well.

That is weird because my brother has a rogue and it does the same thing when he tries to get on the web or anything like that...

An OG Motorola Droid.

Current issues with it:
-Random stuff will start crashing
-Sometimes cannot take phone calls
-Sounds occasionally don't work
-LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGG
-Can't stick on wifi for more than a minute without disconnecting itself

It actually just started doing it last month. The touchscreen was acting up (working one minute, not working the next), but now it seems fine. The internet crashing the phone is a downer though. Oh well, I suppose. I don't have much longer to wait for the Nexus.

I am going to lose my downloaded games though (Final Fantasy I & II), which sucks.

Blackberry Pearl 8110.
It is very old.
I too followed the Bionic since CES and was strung along until release.
I also decided to wait for the Nexus since there were non-stellar reviews of the droid bionic screen.
These issues were confirmed when I went to Verizon to see for myself.
I have been waiting for the Nexus Prime since the rumors began.
Unfortunately I didn't know that this was going to be another fiasco like the Bionic.

Yes, I could have just rented a Razr or Rezound but I decided it would be better to just torture myself.
Misery loves company. :)

Droid Incredible. Not leaving it for any reason besides wanting a new phone. It has been an excellent phone, no problems, and has had awesome developer support. The support has / was really good until the newer phone Thunderbolt etc came out and some of the devs left to work on those phones. However during the time it was super active I enjoyed it. So a Nexus device was the next logical step.

I mainly wanted something a bit more in the middle, screen size wise, from a phone to my tablet. I figure since my tablet is a 10.1 something with a 4.65" screen would be just right. I love my Inc, I really am having second thoughts about dumping it because it has been such a great phone.

Almost on the same boat as you OP.

I've been lurking this forum for some time but this is my first post.

I'm on a LG Envy Touch. I've been waiting for the Galaxy SII and when I heard that it wasn't coming to verizon, I was very disappointed. I've never really liked apple products but thought I might wait for the "Iphone 5". The 4S turned out to be a disappointment also. Then I heard of the Nexus and have been waiting ever since...

Sorry guys. First time post. But I've got you all beat. I'm one of those guys that would hold on to something for a long time and only upgrade when necessary.

Here's my current phone:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola_RAZR#V3i

So, after having my Motorola Razr v3i since launch (I got it sometime in 2005; don't remember which month), I'm finally upgrading (and moving from AT&T) to what you kids call "smartphones" and this whole "Android" thing with the GN.

btw, I am NOT kidding. The v3i has a 100 text message limit, including both In and Out messages, for 50 each. I know you guys may think that's nuts, but I honestly haven't had to text many people, so I've never had a real reason to change. A girl I'm dating wants me to upgrade so we can text more often.

Heh, I got one of those on release. I went through 3 of them because the numpad's kept going out on them. Went from that phone to an LG flip which was perfect then onto blackberries and now Android.

I'm leaving a Droid X2. I'm hoping that this is a smart move for me or am I upgrading just because of the hype. No major issues with the X2. Sometimes it randomly reboots or freezes, but it's pretty rare. Have had some issues with the camera taking a pic and then not saving it. That has been annoying. But I have a discount available so I can get the GN on contract and I'm really digging the ICS OS. And yes, the screen on the X2 kinda sucks, but otherwise no complaints with it. I wish I could say I was coming from something like the OG Droid so I'd see a huge difference, but coming from a phone which already has a dual core processor, I'm not expecting a HUGE boost in speed, just a much better OS and overall Android experience......I hope.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I have been a long time BB user, owning multiple models going back to the 7000 models. When my Storm 2 died, I checked out the new Torch but could not do it. I started waiting for the iPhone 5 because that is the only other OS that let's me get corporate e-mail, but when it became the 4s I decided to pass. I have never been a fan of Apple, so that was easy.

Anyway, I have a BB Bold loner from a guy in IT that I have used for the last month or two waiting for the Nexus to come out. Look forward to the new OS.

Using an OG motorola droid. Half of my screen doesn't work. And it tends to swipe side to side on it's own. When I play words with friends, I can only use 5 letters. I can't answer calls and when I want to text, I have to use the keyboard.
