Leaving my iPhone for Galaxy S5 questions

I recently went from iPhone to Galaxy S5. No ragrets..! (I actually meant to mispell that)

Thanks everyone, I ordered a 128 GB chip, 6 charging cords for my office, travel bag, and my two cars, also the , Invisible Shield, so with that said,

all I need is a Case, which I want to be as slim as possible and a Belt Clip because I don't see me keeping this in my pocket all of the time.

I signed in to Google Play and it has started the import of all of my songs which totals 6539, its gonna take a while :-)

I know there will be a learning curve, and I know there could be some glitches, actually.... my son got his S5 / ATT, and after about 1 month, we would send a text to his phone and it would not arrive, and we would call him and the phone would go straight to Voicemail, even when we were standing next to him, so we took it back to ATT and then did a diagnostic on it and gave him a new phone, and told him that his battery was bad, so they mailed us a battery that came 1 week later,

but since then, its been a reliable phone and the battery life seems to be very good, better than my iPhone 5, I charge mine every opportunity that I can and , of course, he charges his overnight when he goes to bed, not before then, and his battery will outlast mine hands down.

So, Thursday is the big day to go pick one up!

I was not aware that Motorola phones are pretty much stock and get updates largely on Google's schedule rather than the carriers, so thank you for informing me of that fact. I will say Motorola will have to work hard to gain my respect again, but it sounds like maybe they are trying.

Yep. The Verizon Moto X got Kit Kat 19 days after Google announced the new OS. This is largely due to the unmolested version of Android that is loaded on Motorola's devices. They've stated in the past, as well, that it's their goal to update their phones quickly and continue using a clean version of Android.

Even Motorola's non-flagships or carrier exclusives are updated more quickly than most other flagship phones.

Samsung...cannot claim nearly the same for their flagship at the time of Kit Kat's release.

HTC is not much better.

LG is unsurprisingly terrible, as well.

I, myself, transferred from an iPhone 5 to a Samsung Galaxy S5. I didn't think I would get used to it right away, but after playing with it a few days after I bought it (I got mine about 2 weeks ago), I got the hang of it. I honestly don't think I will ever go back to using an iPhone. I love Apple, though. They make great computers and tablets, but as for phones, I'll stick with Android. I like the freedom so much better than I did with iPhone. I'm not so constricted or forced to keep icons I don't want on the home screen. Not to mention that the battery life is fantastic on the Galaxy as opposed to the iPhone by a long shot. It's not that big of a leap from IOS to Android and I'm sure that you'll get the hang of it pretty quick.

The way I transferred my music to my phone was after I downloaded the Android File Manager (since I have a Macbook Pro), I dragged all the songs onto the MicroSD card and I was good to go. (Another feature I love about my Samsung Galaxy S5 is expandable storage!)

First congratulations and welcome to Android :)
The battery in my Samsung S5 lasts a full day if I use LTE, pictures and some videos often. I've never yet managed to get the battery to drop to 0% before the end of the day. The fingerprint reader is also great!
All in all, it's a great phone and it won't bend! :P Be sure to check out all the cool features that Samsung put in there!

I don't have anywhere near the 6500 songs that you have but when I would download several songs I would then burn them to an audio CD then rip them as MP3's. That way you destroy the protection that Apple encodes to their songs and they will play on any platform including my Linux desktop..

I have 6500 on 64GB and i ordered the new Class 10 Micro SanDIsk 48bs, so I will be set for a long time

Obviously I don't use them all, but basically, I have most of my library in one spot for crusing in my Corvette, going to the Gym, bike rides etc

Got it Wednesday, downloaded Nova and its all good, :) pretty much have it operating the same as my iPhone in terms of icons, I used Double Twist to sung all of my songs, Dropbox to backup pictures and the typical weather, new widgets etc.

hi , Few years back i traded my blackberry bold for an i phone and my PC for mac
I love my mac but my iPhone got old and i switched to GalaxyS5
I love my S5 - there is a learning curve but generally S5 is much more sophisticated then iPhone
pay attention to the apps in the background - they will consume your battery
tech reps on samsung site are fantastic - if you remember the early iPhone days -the apple store crew used to be patient and client oriented
This is no longer true with apple but the samsung guys are patent and they will walk you through all the hoops

Sweet, enjoy!

I've been with iPhone forever and yes their laptops are superior IMO but just when I think I'm ready to switch back to an iPhone I look at my S5 and find something new that I like about it.
I've had it for a month now and I'm real familiar with it now.
I almost jumped back to Apple to be honest and then my grandson showed me his Chrome book his mom bought him and he showed me how when his phone is near it all his info pops up on that chrome book.
I know apple just introduced something similar but I honestly don't think Google is quite there yet.
1. They still don't have a scaling so fonts are to small and icons smaller even though you can adjust them Windows and OSX do this automatically. I suggest keeping your mac and using KIES from Samsung to sync your phone

So after 1 year, I will be going back to iPhone this fall.

The early advice in this thread was spot-on. Samsung Galaxy S5 is slow, hot, constantly runs out of memory, apps crash all the time, and it is lagging many many months behind on updates. We just got 5.0 a few months back and no sign of 5.1. Maybe if I got a Motorola, I would have had a good experience, but Samsung + Touchwiz + AT&T carrier garbage = a very poor user experience. Did I mention how much apps crash, lag, and just plain don't work right? I'm surprised I don't have screen burn-in with the "Unfortunately <appname> has stopped."

1 out of every 3 text messages I attempt to send shows a Failed to Send message. That message will then be "stuck" and the only way to get it to send is to turn Airplane mode on and back off which is a 5 step process. I rarely make it through the day on a battery charge. I have to restart the phone every 2-3 days or things fail to draw like all the PIN code digits just draw as white boxes instead of numbers.

I guess there's one upside to AT&T's $27/month "Next" phone leasing program. I don't have to wait 2 years to replace this doorstop.

Sounds like you may have gotten a bad phone. I have a Samsung s5 and have not experienced the things you have.

Precisely.

Yea my husbands note 2(was mine first) used to get the app crashes. Note 2 came before s5 thou... That was the most annoying thing About the phone.
I doubt I'll ever get a Samsung unless they lower prices! It's insane to pay 1000$ for something I can pay 4-500$ minus touch wiz! IMO touch wiz isn't worth THAT much to me!

Sorry you had such a bad experience. I've had none of that. It does sound like you got a bad phone. Either that or you need to do a factory reset after the last OS update. Many people with similar issues started having them after the last OS update and have fixed them by doing a full factory reset. Not all but most.

My family has iPhones and I can't imagine using one after my S5. But it's all about preferences and what works for you. Best of Luck.
