Leaving Samsung?

I don't have a Pixel but I use a case and a holsted. Belt and suspenders.
Well the Otter Box Defender got a good belt clip that I use with my running shorts early in the morning. But it fit good at my jeans pockets and at the office the top of my desk do the job.

I'm trying to leave my Note 7....but they won't ship the darn phone.

If the shipping date gets pushed back again, I might give Apple a shot for the first time in my life.

I think we need to be careful "blaming" the Pixel. Most of the third party app issues are compatibility with Nougat.

You don't seem impressed with the Pixel. I get how you feel though. Samsung packed so many great features it their phones. The biggest issue with Samsung for me was the update process. Waiting 4 months for an update that breaks a feature then waiting another 4 months for the patch is ridiculous.
Honestly update speed is blown out of proportion.

Phones don't become unusable/worse simply because some other phones have gotten newer software.

I can understand the concern over security updates, but OEMs have been up to date on those.

Samsung makes great, feature laden phones. Their oversaturated screens look great and the Note 7 was all around a great experience. The Pixel/XL lacks Samsung features, but it just seems to work and work well. The Pixel camera is really good, Samsung also has good cameras, but the Pixel camera makes me admire photos I have taken. Pixel is kinda utilitarian, nothing special to look at, nothing incredibly special in general but special all the same. It is lacking "things" but it does what it does well. Fortunately I have no connection issues and I have a better signal than I did with the Note 7. The s-pen was nice, when I used it. I don't miss TouchWiz and time will tell if the Pixel will lag like the Samsungs notoriously do with time, but I doubt it.

Am I happy Pixel owner? I am satisfied with the Pixel and happy with many aspects. The Note 7 was great but I don't miss it. I might check out the next Samsung as I am sure it will have everything including the kitchen sink.

I wish I could sum up my satisfaction with this phone. It is basic for a TOTL phone but it does everything I seem to want to do. There is something to say for a "just works" experience.

I've had Samsung phones for the last 4 years. But I'm making the jump into pixel. I most likely would have been on the note 7 this year but we all know what happened. I thought about the S7E but the curves seemed to be more pronounced than the note 7 and never like the idea of the edges. I'm wondering if anyone else left Samsung for pixel and wonder what they miss and what they are glad they gained by making the switch. I'm personally going to miss the s pen and notification light but greatful for the speedy updates.

I had the Note 7 and enjoyed a lot! I miss the design, the screen, IP68, expandable storage (I have a 256GB card that I can't use on my Pixel). Samung was getting much better with their UI, it was very tolerable and dare I say a pleasure to use. The S pen was a nice to have but if it wasn't on the phone I would not have missed it. I also had the S7 edge and I returned it because I had way too many accidental screen taps, the edge screen was way too pronounced.

I really like the Pixel XL, and I'm curious to see what Google does next year, I will wait until then before I decide to upgrade. I'm definitely waiting to see what happens with the S8 and will not be pre-ordering. I'll be giving it time to see how it behaves in the wild.

I went back to Samsung. Only because I returned my first two pixels. First was a screen fault then the next pixel was dropped calls and restarted itself a few times. Update didn't fix it. So went back to my S7 for now. I loved the pixel but couldn't be bothered going for a third pixel. Might wait for the next model of pixel.

If you had the Note 7 you might miss the faster charging and the viewing experience the Note 7 had. It was something different. I wanted to get an S7, but I didn't want to get an older phone since the newer one would be coming less than 6 months later. I hope you enjoy the Pixel as much as I have :D

S5, S6 and S7E and jumped ship for the Pixel XL on Project Fi. Can't say I don't miss looks of the S7E, but I love my the Pixel, it is fast, the camera is if anything better than my S7E and NO MORE BLOATWARE! The phone is well built, works well and with 7.1 the battery life is amazing. I thought I was going to miss wireless, but not at all. Where I used to have to keep my S7E on a charger throughout the day, I rarely have to do anything with my pixel except plugging in when I go to bed.

I am still using my Note 7 waiting for my Pixel XL to arrive!!! The Note 7 is still the best phone ever released. No issues at all with it. I purchased all my cases for the Pixel XL along with a Stylus to make the Pixel as close to the Note as possible. I tested to pen on the pixel and it works well. So I can use it with my work. I know I will miss my Note 7 when and if I send it back. I did not want to go with the S7 or Note 5. I decided to take a break. My next phone after the Pixel will be the Note 8!!!

I left Samsung (S7 Edge) for the Pixel XL. I had never had a Samsung phone before, but had the S7 since launch day. The S7e was an excellent phone and the biggest issue for me was the curved screens which I didn't care for at all, but they did not offer one without the curves so..

The thing I miss most about the Samsung is the Game Tools thing. It was awesome to be running at all times and be able to go into quickly to disable nav buttons (if anyone has a solution to this, please let me know! I hate playing a game and the nav buttons pop in and I hit recents or back or home accidentally!).

I absolutely love the Pixel XL and one of the biggest reasons is the unlockable bootloader and massive development following it is going to have. I'ma tinkerer, so being locked down on Samsung really made me miss the freedom of root on an unlocked phone.

I was always buying a smartphone in the spring (RAZR Maxx, G3, S7e) so I didn't have a lot of options to get on the Nexus bandwagon. I'm finally glad I broke the spring cycle and got a Nexus/Pixel. I will probably Swappa this XL if the next Pixel is a marked improvement over this one (hoping for smaller bezels).

Re: leaving samsung

Please let us know if this stylus actually works well with your Pixel when you get your phone in - the reviews on Amazon lend the impression it's sort of hit-or-miss depending on the device.

I Tested it on my friends Pixel XL. It was like using my S-Pen. Works great with Evernote and One Note. I wish the Pixel could get S-Note but that is a Samsung App. My friend uses the pen the same way I do for electronic Signatures and credit card transactions it worked fine. He is the reason I purchased it. I am still waiting for my Pixel XL to arrive.

Is the fingerprint sensor on the back awkward to use than the conventional sensor on the front. Do people typically place the phone face down on a table to easily activate the phone when picking it up? Also are the gestures on the sensors useful?

I made the jump to pixel from an S7 edge. Lets put it this way. Im SO happy I kept my S7E. Dont misunderstand please. The Pixel is a great phone. But the S7 edge is really better. As far as speed goes, side by side, the pixel is nanoseconds faster. You'd hardly notice. The great AI won't do anything different than the one on your Google account on the edge. Battery life is fantastic but so is the edge. Screen on pixel is excellent, but NOT better than the edge. You've got expandable storage, water and dust protection, wireless charging, a much better looking device in the edge. Pixel is nice, but I feel its a downgrade from the edge.
