Again - any evidence of the Verge being paid to like certain products? That is a strong accusation.

Go to the youtube page of the video and look at the dislikes bar and comments. I give them props for not taking down the video though.

If you pay attention to everything he said and his tone of voice, it's very easily to deduce he's an iPhone fanboy, he automatically assume Android have bad camera, bad build quality, laggy and of course too massive.

If Dieter Bohn is a fanboy of anything, it's Palm and WebOS. He was the editor in chief of this network of sites (aka Phil and Rene's old boss) when it was Smartphone Experts (precursor to Mobile Nations).

On your specific points -

Camera - "usually Android cameras aren't that impressive" - uh. That's been true. Few Android phones match let alone beat the current iPhones and Nokias. This was a first-look, not a review, so he didn't know how the Nexus 5 compared because specs (which he rattled off) aren't the only story.

Build Quality - he liked the feel and called the soft-touch plastic "pretty good"

Scrolling performance - I agree with him. He also said the device "screams".

Massive - he said nothing negative about the size and said it was comfortable to hold in the hand.
