Lets not panic just yet

I referenced my article and copy and pasted exactly what was sent to me. See my post at the top of this page.

I think what they're referring to is you said, "I got an email from Verizon saying the Bionic was still upcoming and was pending a release date. Even if they are lying, they are at least saying something." What you posted is a link to an article, not anything Verizon would have sent you...we wanted to see the actual email Verizon sent you.

We need to remember, of course, that we're unlikely to ever hear an official announcement that its cancelled. 'Droid Bionic' is the name that VZW's marketing dept. came up with for the final release version of the device, which was initially going to be the phone Motorola developed from the Atrix platform and referred to internally as the Etna. VZW and Moto both have a lot riding on the launch of the Droid Bionic, especially considering it was to be the flagship device for both companies for the near future.

Therefore, as we have already speculated, there is little chance that the Bionic as a name is dead. It would kill Moto's stock and damage VZW's earnings if they just announced that their most anticipated device is defunct. And the Etna doesn't actually exist in the consumer space, so there's no reason to mention if it has been passed over. It looks much better to the investors to say the Bionic is still in development and taking longer than anticipated, due to a late hardware revision, than to say its cancelled. There's no reason for them to announce that the planned hardware has been changed, as they haven't begun to market the Etna device as the Bionic yet. A change to the Targa or similar dual-core LTE powerhouse would keep the Bionic name alive, and both companies would only suffer the losses of a delay, rather than the devastation of announcing a cancellation.

That being said, I still am not convinced that the Etna itself has been passed on. There are still a few things indicating an early May release date, and I find it hard to believe the Targa would be ready by then.

My post includes a link to the article I wrote based on the email I received. The post ALSO quotes the entire section of the email pertaining to the Bionic, word for word. I'm really not sure what more people want. It seems as though folks are only reading part of the post, or are just skimming the post.

I guess it doesn't really matter. I'm just trying to add a bit of legitimate information to the discussion. What folks do with that info is up to them. I just hope it helps.

I did what any respectable customer should do, i bought a new battery for my 28 month old BB Storm 1.

I nursed my dying BB Storm 1 long enough while waiting for my first Droid device. After waiting and waiting for the TBolt only to be completely disappointed by its impotent battery, after waiting and waiting for the Bionic only to be battered by rumors of its premature death, and so on and so forth i went out across the street yesterday and bought a new battery for my old Storm 1. Enough!

I am going to wait it out, i am going to wait for a device with a decent battery and with the least amount of gremlins. I am going to let all the "experts" and "tech guys" take the first swing at the next half-dozen or so new 4G Droids and see where they fall. After that and in a relaxed and composed manner i will let the winner rise to the top and then i will switch.

I am back on the side lines and i feel real good about it. I want to thank you all who have answered my questions and put up with my lack of knowledge in this field. I will be watching and waiting and will occasionally dip my toes in the water to see if its near ready to jump in.

the best of luck to you all, I truly hope the Bionic is not dead and is everything you guys want it to be. Who knows , by the end of the year we could be looking at quad core 2.0 gigahertz processors packing 32 gig of internal RAM expandable to 128 gigs with HDMI output, Bluetooth 3.0, a 3,000 miliamp battery with 8 hour talk time, and a holographic projected keyboard :-) - and by then the economy will be so poor that Big Red will still be giving away its LTE service in an attempt to draw in enough customers to cover costs.

Ha! I'm in the same situation, but to be honest my patience is ending. Had the original Storm since day 1 and I'm just tired of the multitude of problems with this phone. I can barely download any apps, both because most apps suck and the fact that it just ends up screwing up my phone.

Part of it is my fault, if I was willing to sacrifice a feature or two I'm sure I would be happy with certain things out or coming out in the near future. At the same time I always find myself disappointed with Verizon's phone options when it comes time to upgrade. This isn't the first time where I was stuck with a phone I didn't want because there was nothing else they had that really worked for me. Verizon usually gets great phones eventually, but it is almost always well after phones with those features have been released by other carriers. If it wasn't for the fact that the other networks around here are awful then I probably would jump ship.

I was really happy with the features in the Bionic and didn't mind waiting around knowing it was going to be released around mid-summer. Now though I have no clue what is likely to come out and when and it is very frustrating. Really hate that Verizon stopped one year contracts and new every two. I'm just going to have to hope that some kind of good "Bionic" news comes out soon and that some version of the phone will be released sooner rather than later.
