LG G3 signal - generic issue or just a few faulty phones?

The problem exists. If you are in a good signal area..things are rosy. What I've noticed the past month is that google voice to text isn't a fast as it was on my Note 2 and areas where I was able to surf with 1 bar of signal on the Note2 (my desk for instance) is a PITA with the G3 that is showing 2 or 3 bars.

I still love the phone though!

I hope things get better for you..I just switched to the S5 Active. I mean what a difference. Areas where I had little to no signal with the g3, I have 3 bar's with the Active. And Everything Is Much faster. Even Google search..

Doesn't really matter if the stock Rom displays accurate db's or not, it still drops signal completely when it hits around 113db on 3G, which it often does, so is a problem regardless.

I have 2 G3's and have put an EE SIM in one and o2 in the other. EE seems to be less affected by the drop outs, which makes me think the problem might be with a particular bandwidth that o2 use.

Also, I noticed that on the EE SIM, I sometimes get '3G' showing on the notification bar (UMTS in network info) but get 'H' on o2 and never 3G. Is that just because o2 have upgraded the masts I connect to?

I've think I've got to the bottom of the problem with my reception.

I got two free 3 sims, and put one into my G3 and my old Samsung Galaxy 3. The reception on both was virtually the same, until the signal got below EDGE (2G). The Galaxy would continue to receive a phone signal, but the G3 just gives up.

It would seem to be a problem with the 2G reception.

I have T-Mobile, and live in Idaho. I have the WORST reception in my town (2g or roaming). my signal is either 3 bars or no bars at all and has the network searching sign...this is my second g3. Had the iPhone 5s never lost service in my town once. Hope this is a software issue..

My 2G signal, so Edge and GPRS is great, it's 3G mine struggles with. I bought an EE SIM to compare, surprisingly no issues and no dropouts on my drive to work.

I know EE and O2 use different bands. Is it possible that there's a band that O2 uses that the G3 doesn't like?

Err, I didn't think Three UK had a 2G network, isn't it all 3G? In which case, how could it drop to 2G?

I posted this in another thread :

When I get in the elevator to go to lunch break I lose 4g and it takes about 5 minutes or so after I get outside for 4g to come back. I came from a Moto X and didn't have this problem. I would still lose 4g in the elevator with my Moto X but I would regain it back almost instantaneously after getting off the elevator. This has been my only drawback with the phone so far. Had it for a few days now so hopefully this is the only quirk I find with it. The radios do appear to be weaker in the G3 than the Moto X though which is kind of disappointing.

I guess I should say when my G3 loses 4g it still has 3g. So I don't completely lose signal but it does take longer than it should for the 4g to come back on. Like I said with my Moto X it was instantaneous where as the G3 takes several minutes.

Well, I've been through 3 SIM cards now. I'm giving up on it and moving to an iPhone 6+. Of course it'll be a month before I get my iPhone since I didn't set an alarm for midnight.

I'm thinking the same, the iPhone 6 is a distinct possibility now. It's such a shame as I love this G3. I can forgive some of the other minor shortcomings, like power hungry screen and mediocre sound, but network reception and quality are kind of important!

I'm going to start a new thread / poll, keen to find out what operators people who are having issues are on. Pretty sure it's just in "fringe" areas but tried an EE sim in mine with zero issues.

So, I have a theory about these signal issues some of us are having.

I'm on my 3rd LG G3 and still have signal issues (when using an O2 SIM). It seems to only affect 3G (HSPA and HSPA+). GSM, GPRS, EDGE and 4G seem to be fine.

I've driven around and compared the signal (a bit sad I know) using a Galaxy S3, my old iPhone 5 and my LG G3, with SIMS from all UK operators. What's odd is that I have no signal issues / drop outs when using a Three or EE SIM in the phone, they perform as well on the Galaxy, iPhone and G3. In fact, the G3 gets a better signal than the other 2 most of the time.

But chuck in an O2 SIM and the G3 is significantly worse than the iPhone or Galaxy (using a couple of PAYG SIMS I got from O2). I know in addition to the 2100Mhz frequency that all of the other operators use for 3G, O2 use the 900Mhz band too (as do vodafone), so thinking maybe the G3 doesn't like that band?

Just to clarify, the issue is that in weaker 3G areas, my G3 just can't hold onto the signal and there are long periods with no reception at all. This would be fine if the Galaxy G3 and iPhone were also dropping out, but they don't. Some people are saying this phone awesome 3G signal, others are saying it's terrible. I'm thinking it could be more based on the mast and frequency you're connected to, i.e. 2100Mhz is great and 900Mhz (that Three and EE don't use), doesn't work so well with*this phone.

Has anyone else looked into this, or tried another operator's sim without issues?

I am having a lot of problems with WIFI connection. I can't access the internet or email because it tells me I have no connection, however, I am clearly connected to the WIFI. Also, I always have to select a WIFI network, it will not automatically connect, even though I have it set up that way. I've had the phone less than two weeks and I've used three times the amount of data than I did with my old phone because I can't seem to maintain a decent WIFI connection.

Another issue I am having is that the battery seems to drain very quickly. I have to recharge it around 5 or 6 p.m. My husband purchased a Galaxy S5 the same day and he hasn't had any of these problems. He will still have a 60% or greater charge with medium usage. I've been back to the Verizon store to speak with them about exchanging the phone for the S5, but they keep insisting that the G3 is a superior phone and that I should give it more time. I was starting to wonder if I had a lemon on my hands, but it seems like other people are having the same issues. Today is the last day that I can exchange it. I'm thinking I probably should exchange it, or else I'm going to be stuck with a phone that isn't functioning the way it should!

I definitely find the signal to be weaker than what I was used to on my Lumia 920.

So, I'm on my 2nd G3 after returning the 1st due to poor reception. However, things are no better!

I'm on O2 in the UK and have done a number of comparisons against my old iphone 5 and my work Galaxy S3. The dbm on my G3 is always around 8-10 dbm worse. I get around 10 dropouts on my 25 minute drive to work, my iPhone drops out once.

What I want to know is, am I just unlucky and have received 2 dodgy phones or are there lots of people having similar issues?

I've read some comments saying the G3 reception is great. I don't seem to have a problem on 4G, but GPRS and HSPA just can't seem to hang on to a signal in weaker areas.

Unfortunately, I am someone whom likes to get the latest phones etc when they come out. Got the LG G3, love it hence why I'm still using it. Only problem I have with it, is my signal drops all the time.

If this an issue with the 1st lot of them? Has this been rectified now or do I get in touch with o2 about the situation.

^^^What sort of signal strength are you getting when you do get a signal?

I'll chime in. I'm still on my first Verizon G3 here in the states, but I am going in to have it replaced this weekend. Same issue. Spotty reception. I'll have 2-3 bars of 4G strength, then it'll just drop completely off and switch to 3G without being moved. Then it'll drop to 1X which doesn't work any longer here, so no surfing. Switching to airplane mode and back only helps sometimes. Other times I have to completely reboot the phone. I'm hoping it's just a bad phone, and not an under lying problem with the G3's radio.
Same thing happens to me, on VZ, but I have an LG Spectrum 2, but I am in a building with a metal roof, smart appliances, and tons of othet smart phones, so I think it has something to do with that, because it happens no where else but here.
