What is everyone's thoughts on these two. I am due for an upgrade and am currently using a g2. I like the moto x but the battery life and camera are holding me back. Coming from the g2 I know the g3 would be fine but doesnt feel like much of a new device. Also I have heard the g3 stutters and can have battery life problems as well.

Any thoughts on the Motorola x?

Battery life on the G3 isn't much better on the G3. Both would be a downgrade from the G2 in that regard. IMO, the G2 -> isn't worth an upgrade. You get mostly the same phone, with just a slightly sharper screen and a better camera.
The Moto X is a pretty significantly different phone than both, so if you like the software on that I'd say go for it. The extra features Moto added are nice. As is the ability to customize the device to your liking

Thanks for the info. Anyone else considering the Moto x. I like the idea of fast updates especially on Verizon.

U love the G3, have had no problems with mine, but I would say that the G2 was more fluent and had better battery management than the G3... Other than that, the G3 reigns supreme

I don't understand how people are having "lag" issues or "stuttering" with the G3. Had mine for a couple weeks now, I've switched to ART for the time being, and I'm using Nova Launcher, and I'm getting ZERO lag.

I didn't switch to art and mine is fluid. Not M8 fluid but close.

Well early tests indicate that the New Moto X is not that great on battery. The G3's strong points are...

1)This Screen (debatable) but I like the softer tones and the resolution.

2)Battery I average between 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 hrs screen on but I have achieved 6hrs+ so its very decent.

3)The build in fitting a 5.5" into this form is great.

4)The Camera I like a lot and it produces fantastic shots and decent not brilliant in lowlight.

5)For me and my experience (I know some have had lag & overheating) but I since owning have not came across this yet (touch wood).

The Moto X 2014 will be a good device I'm sure but not one that appeals to me.

I preferred the old Moto X in my opinion because the screen size was just right. The 2014 Moto X doesn't seem much of an upgrade from the 2013 edition. I agree that both the G3 and Moto X isn't much of an upgrade I would get the G3 even though it has been out for a bit already.

I came from the 2013 Moto X to the G3. I would be hesitant to buy the 2014 Moto X because it seems to have the same shortcomings of the 2013 Moto X - small battery and average camera. I got 3 hours screen time max on 4G with 2013 Moto X. They made the screen bigger and 1080p and are using the same size battery. And the battery life on the 2013 Moto X was average at best. There was a lot to like about the 2013 Moto X - touch less controls, active notifications, great form factor etc. I just feel like the 2014 Moto X should have a 3000 mah battery and good camera..

I have a 2013 X and my wife has a G3. There a few reasons why I would go for the X before the G3. Smaller profile, assuming this is a big deal for you. I like the phone to fit in my hand and use the phone with just one hand. Active notifications (Moto Screen for 2014) and touch less controls. Plus with my experience, the G3 isn't as smooth as my X. My X doesn't stutter or 'lag' like her G3 can at times. Some have tweaked with their phones to help with that so it seems fixable. Also, Motorola has a great track record as of late with OS updates. And to add sprinkles to the topping, the Moto X runs near unmolested Android. Every phone works out differently for different people so go with your gut instinct. Good luck and have fun with it.

You can get the notification screen on any phones! Maybe works even better. :)

G3 for the camera. The performance specs won't be noticed in real life use probably.

I had the G2 but traded it for a different phone because of the slow focus and shutter speed of the camera. The G3 is a good upgrade from the G2, especially for the camera, which I'm sure you can tell is important to me.

I'm making this same comparison today.

I've been pretty set on the Moto X, but the battery and the camera are worrying me more and more. I keep telling myself i'll be fine. But i average anywhere from 3 hours to 5 hours screen time on my iPhones. When the G3 came out it seemed perfect. A HTC with a better phone and no sense UI (which I don't need).

But then the Moto came. It was smaller (the G3 felt way too big - not only tall but too wide), its camera is about the same as the HTCs arguably (although id like more discussion on this), and UI is way more up my alley (stock android). And quick android L updates. And Moto's added additions are superb.

So, I'm torn. I bet i'll get the moto x and if i hate it ill turn it back in for something else. And hopefully not eventually go back to an iPhone :D

But would love to hear some thoughts from y'all!

i had the lg g3 on verizon up til a few days ago, now using the moto x. Its a fantastic phone with unique features, hard to compare the two

Having a big difference in battery life or no? I've been thinking about this switch but the battery.....

Hi guys, my lumia broke , i dont want to go back to iphone so iam finnaly getting back to Android, and after a couple of days of research i settled on either the new Moto X or the G3.

Moto X seems to have great build and amazing software , but it also comes with a very poor camera for it's price and the battery seems terrible.

The G3 has great overall features, but ive seem over heating and lag issues, and i coudnt find a way to install Cyanogen which should solve most of those issues.

so to everyone here who owns a G3, would you switch to Moto X? or did you already? if so why.

I am ready for a contract renewal and I am seriously considering these two phones. Anyone here had a chance to use both and can provide some comments?

i went for the Moto X for the build quality alone, it feels much better than the Lg on my hands, yeah the camera isnt great and the battery could be better, but iam liking it alot so far.
