LG G3 What text app are you using?

Re: What text app are you using?

I like Chomp SMS. It lets you make different color themes, even with the free version.

Had anyone figured out how to sync fb contacts with Verizon messages?

Re: What text app are you using?

Smitten SMS is awesome too, been using it for a couple of weeks now. It's not perfect but damn near close though. Fully customizable as well.

Re: What text app are you using?

I just got my G3 last night and I'm wondering what the difference is between the red colored Verizon Messaging Icon and the Orange Regular Messaging Icon? Because it asked me to pick one right as I got the first text message from Verizon about the phone now being active etc. so I picked the red icon but this morning at 5am I got a junk text email ad from Walmart. If that red Verizon is going to open me up to all that crap I need to change it.

Re: What text app are you using?

I've been using the stock app since I got my G3 and really appreciate the pop up windows rather than it just appearing in my notification tray or taking up a whole screen. Coming from my S4 that was one of my biggest complaints - I used another messaging app that popped up bubbles like the new FB Messenger does but didn't handle group messaging well. My only complaint with the G3 was the lack of being able to preview my messages in the lock screen like I used to with my S4. Someone recommended NiLS and it worked perfect. Now my messages and other notifications show on the lock screen with a summary.

Question on Hangouts - a lot of people prefer that as a messaging app. Does it require all of your contacts to be on Hangouts as well or will it allow me to message a cell # directly?

Thanks,
-Rob

I don't use hangout as my text program but I could tell you that when you are texting someone via sms, it will tell you that you are versus a regular hangout msg.

Re: What text app are you using?

I was using Handcent, but switched to Textra because when people who sent me media messages (pics, etc.) on iPhones, it wouldn't show up, just a blank box. Textra fixed that.

Re: What text app are you using?

I use ChompSMS (made by the same developers of Textra) -- Has worked on all my phones :).

Re: What text app are you using?

I started with the stock messaging app, then went with Textra, which I was using on my old phone. I am now back to the stock app. I like the look and functionality of the stock one. It's pretty darn good actually.

@rtapales: In regards to lock screen notifications, someone on here recommended acdisplay, and I like that a lot. It may be another option for you.

I use Verizon Messaging, and noticed no spam emails generating from it. Verizon Messaging has great emojis, as well as it's ability to sync your text messaging across platforms; add the app too your Android or Apple tablet and to your PC. You can then text from anywhere, and the conversations appear on all devices.

Re: What text app are you using?

I'm currently using Textra and really liking it. Was using EvolveSMS since it's release but Textra to me is just faster, smoother and just works.

I have GO SMS Pro and, just for giggles, tried a few of the other ones noted here.
For the most part, all have good and bad points.
GO lets you give each contact its' own ringtone AND signature.
I found that none of the others allows both.

If I missed one, let me know.

Sent from the future on my Sprint Tri-Band LG G3.

Sliding messaging is a good one too. But it's a paid app. Only thing I don't like about it is the issue with sending /receiving MMS messages

I've been using Textra for the last couple of days, and the functionality is great vs Hangouts. Doesn't give the data message option of Hangouts, but the on screen pop up and quick reply are awesome. Being able to theme it and customize notifications and the LED is just a bonus, really nice app.

The only thing it's missing is the option to customize text (fonts) and text bubbles.

I use the stock messager. It's flawless. My only complaint is I can't customize ringtones but we have discussed that's carrier related. Unfortunately some carriers believed we didn't need that so took that option out. Textra was used for years and it just started to drain my battery bad plus there was always an issue with double texts and mms not being received and vice versa. I used go sms for a long time as well but it's very heavy and slow, lots of mms issues with that as well.

I tried handcent, go sms, and chomp last year. All 3 seemed slower and had a lot going on so I found stock LG worked best for me.

Yesterday I downloaded textra. I now like it better than stock so far. Love the ios emoji compatibility so me and my wife can exchange those lol. Love the way it pops up to answer also then just goes away after my reply. Simple, easy and fast.
