LG G4 Carrier Question

So I can't afford a $650 phone right now, I'm 14... But, I can afford a $200 contract. So I know AT&T installs bloatware, but I'm not scared of a little root... Some big points though.

1) Is there wireless charging? The G3 AT&T variant didn't so... You know.

2) When you unlock, is there a good way to remove bloatware? (Other than a trusty root?)

3) How is AT&T on software updates? (They shouldn't even be in charge of it, but, you know, they are)

Re: Carrier Question

2. No way to remove bloatware without root. Most can be disabled though.

3. Carriers are usually slower than the carrier free models.

  1. No. Currently no Qi charging option. It does appear to have that capability, but we won't know until someone releases a sticker/back with the extra 2 pins. Now maybe AT&T wises up and adds the Qi back cover to it's variant, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I was you.
  2. I haven't read up on the root method yet, but usually once it's rooted, there will be ROMs that are released without bloat. The other option is just to hide the bloat. With the speeds and amount of RAM in these devices now, bloat usually isn't a lag problem like it was in the past. (Just remember, if you root it you lose your warranty if they find out.)
  3. AT&T is a little faster to release updates than Verizon, but still lags behind LG proper. It's usually LG release, then 3-4 months later AT&T release then 2-3 months later Verizon release.

So when unlocked, are you still stuck to AT&T updates?

If it is an AT&T model that has been unlocked, then yes, you will get updates from AT&T still. If you purchase an unlocked international model, then those updates will come from LG.

Sorry. That's what I meant. ^^^^ Well said.

An unlocked International version updates should come from LG even if you have an AT&T SIM card in it. At least, I believe that to be the case.

Also keep in mind if it is the att model then you would need to be on att network to get the OTA. I wasn't able to get lollipop on my att lg g2 when used in another carrier.
