LG G4: Farewell, it was an OK experience

I'd return it before assuming your phone is normal. I haven't experienced anything you mentioned.

The battery on my S6 just last longer than the G4 for my usage.

Well said and I respect you so saying this! Nobody here can fault you for this statement alone! For my usage and many others here, the G4 is excellent. For me in particular, its perhaps because I don't stream much if at all. I do everything from within my device, hence why an SD card slot is so important to me. When I'm underground commuting to and from work, I wouldn't be able to stream anything. Everyones usage varies and its why certain devices are better suited for others. A device that doesn't work for you or me doesn't necessarily mean its a bad device. It just means its not suited for you and/or your use. Good luck with your next device!

Almeuit just brought his International version of the G4 over that he just received. (We work together) His phone seems to work 10X better than the T-Mobile version I have. I will ponder maybe ordering a international version to give the phone another shot. I don't know what T-Mobile did to the phone to make it so bad but they really did a number on it.

I have the H815 model as well. I will start taking more notice of this with others who may have a carrier branded device. Mine is working very well except for the touch sensitivity. I have noticed on my device when I'm scrolling that it won't pick up my touch all the time. Very random though. I'm sure LG is aware of this and will take care of it with an update.

Looking around on the forums it seems to be carrier branded phones that have most of the issues. Specifically Verizon and T-Mobile. They seem to be doing a pretty good hack job on these phones thus ruining the experience for some of us who want to give the phone a try.

My T-Mobile version is running smoothly. I think most of the issues are the extra bloat installed and T-Mobile seems to install the least of the American carriers.

That appears to be the issue. Many of the complaints I've seen center around the T-Mo and VZW models. I don't really have any issues with my Verizon G4, but it's nowhere near as smooth as my S6. I'm sure software updates will get it on track though.

Don't know that I've seen much mention of the Sprint G4. Not sure if that means they aren't having issues or if it means users around these forums are more the T-Mobile / VZW types...

Yeah not sure -- many of the reports I have read follow what ITGuy & EAO said -- VZW / T-Mobile versions seem to be the primary culprit for complaints. As always with complaints it isn't every single device but .. most are from those two carriers.

I have the Sprint version and have seen very little mention of it here or on XDA. I've had random issues with BT, a little touch responsiveness, and 5ghz Wi-Fi which seems to have been fixed for now by changing channels on my router.
Overall, very happy with the phone.

The only problem I have with your post is where you try telling me what my own device is experiencing. No, sorry, I don't have lag on mine when switching between apps or moving throughout the OS. I thought it was common knowledge by now that different devices act differently despite being the same model.

Regardless, I do agree with the auto brightness.

Yup. Agreed ^^^ I'm not experiencing any of these issues. Sound like he got a lemon. It happens more than not.

Okay. What's the point of this thread? Is it a vanity post?

He was posting his thoughts / opinions about the phone he used. There is nothing wrong with doing this as it is a forum for discussion -- the good and the bad :).

I've used the global version H815 extensively - and also the T-Mobile H811 now as my daily driver.

The mandatory update, I call it the incubus update is unusual for T-Mobile and I'm disappointed that they did it that way. Although I never would have known that it happened if I didn't read about it here. You can't blame LG for that.

I loved the lack of carrier junk on the H815, but I can't say for certain that it has less lag or longer battery life than my H811. Maybe I'm not the most demanding user. If I have to tap an extra time to wake it up, it doesn't bother me.

Someone would have to pry the G4 from my hands. It's a keeper for my needs.

Edit: "Touch sensitivity was just terrible on the phone. Double tap to wake was starting to turn into double closed fist smash to wake. What is that you say "IT Guy why not just use the power button" I say to you "Shut your stinking face! you use the power button I want to use double tap to wake!" Just because there are two options for something doesn't mean I have to settle for the other one because one doesn't work all the time."

I've tried double taps a dozen times and works flawlessly. Two taps - and on. No sensitivity problem.

I wonder if the OP got a defective phone the more I think about this. The only way to tell for certain would be try another - such as a display model.

I can say I am enjoying the H815 on T-Mobile right now.

This is my first real day with it so I will have to judge the battery over the weekend and such :).

And battery life does improve over time. Android must have some optimization process going on over the first week or so. But I have not attempted to quantify this.

I have the same set up as you. Its been working so well for me that I'm going to finally be canceling my Sprint service. I just need to call and finalize everything so I can port my number over to T-Mobile. If T-Mobile's service starts disappointing me down the road (hopefully not!), I will hop onto my sisters plan with my parents and join in the fun with AT&T. My sister has 30gb's on her plan and shes concerned that I'd be tapping into her data too much! I'm like....YOU HAVE 30GB'S!!!!! She says she uses it all mostly, lol!

Extra battery is useless to me, I have a quick charger pretty much every where in my home, at work, and in my car. My phone pretty much never goes below 50%

You list battery life as a con on the G4. Why couldn't you apply the same strategy mentioned above on the S6 to the G4?

Haha. I used around 80-150 GB lately. I am able to stream all I want at work so it adds up quickly! :P.

I haven't experienced any lag what so ever, its the fastest phone I've ever had and i think the LG skin is one of the lightest around, my previous phones were S4 and note 3. Battery life for me hasnt been far behind my note 3 so overall I'm very happy with it.
