Hey there boys and girls,
My first G4 was replaced under warranty due to the all too common "boot loop" issue. Fast forward a few months to this morning. I checked my email, went into the kitchen for the first cup of coffee and come back and see the round blue AT&T globe logo on a white background. Ruh roh, this can't be good. I pull the battery and restart the phone. Normal start sequence....Phone prompts me to enter PIN as it's encrypted, then I get a screen that Android is verifying 31 apps. It verifies, then I get the AT&T blue globe/white background page for about 3 minutes then it's back to the Android is verifying 31 apps and the new loop of death continues for a while. Have I stumbled upon "Son of Boot Loop"?
After the second cup of coffee and a few dozen death loops, I am successfully able to do a hard factory reset using the power/volume keys which brings back to last OTA software from AT&T which is Android 6.0 and the 9/1 security update. Get past the initial hello crap, get WiFi working and let Google Play do its thing and download all of my apps.
Here's the weird thing. Prior to death loop v2.0 I was using AT&T Mail v4.9.2 for one of my POP/IMAP legacy accounts which still gets a lot of use.
It's the email client with this icon --->
Clicking on the icon brings up a white screen with a "Retry" button. Checking the app's properties says it's AT&T Mail v1.0 using a whopping 40kb of storage space. To make matters worse, It's nowhere to be found on Google Play. Most of the popular APK sites have it available for download. Before I get in touch with a numbnuts at AT&T customer service, I figured I'd post this experience here and see if anyone else has either experienced the looping that I have and also to see if anyone else is using AT&T Mail 4.92 and/or having trouble installing it. For the time being I'm using the pre-loaded email client with the icon that looks like a white envelope with a yellow @ sign in the middle of it.
So should I chill for a couple of days and see if anyone here knows what's going on, give AT&T support a phone call, visit the local device service center before installing AT&T Mail v4.9.2 from the apk file?
