Yeah, I have a 6 year old so that is definitely a concern.

After doing a little research, I'm thinking the head is more pointed. It most closely looks like a Glossy Snake or a variety of Garter.

Markings look like a boa I used to have. Vast majority of snakes are harmless and help keep rodents under control. In the US there are very few poisonous species, Copperhead, Water Moccasin, Rattlesnake, Coral Snake. Doesn't really look like any of those.

Curious to learn what everyone's aspect ratio preferences are on the G4, 4:3 vs 16:9. I can see how 16:9 would be used more as its the default but I still like to compose in 4:3.

You guys just upload your pics to flixr?

Here's one from yesterday. Used the manual camera.

Go and get a cat!
It's perfect for snakes and scorpions

We had one. Little one is allergic unfortunately or we would in a heartbeat.

Although cats are a sore subject over the past year. The one we had and gave up to a good home passed away from an unknown heart condition less than a week after he was adopted. And my cat who I had to leave with my parents just recently had to be put down because of cancer.

Yeah, it could be that rat snake as well. The base of the head does look a little wider than the neck but I wouldn't say it's wider than the body. IDK.
I'll feel better if I get another chance at it or see it dead in the street. If only I would have gone out the garage instead of the front door but I was trying not to wake people up.

LOL, I don't understand why so many people have this fear of getting eaten by snake. Many of them are harmless, and ALMOST ALL want nothing to with you.

I don't have a fear of this snake, my concern is for my 6 year old who plays in the yard. Venomous or not, the snake will still strike if it feels threatened, which can happen by accident. I doubt being bitten by a snake would be very pleasant for a 6 year old.

I have to say, I think that's my favorite pic in this thread so far! Surely that's not auto?

Starting to get a hang with the manual camera. My first manual shot: 20150630_211331-01.jpg

The sushi place had difficult low light surrounding

Grew up in el paso and my disdain for snakes in general can be traced to many brushes with rattlers. I'm good with that dislike.

A couple of walks in the woods today. The first trees are Garry Oaks and the second are Douglas Fir and Maples; the last shot has been enhanced with Snapseed. All shots were taken in Auto mode with HDR On.
