Quite often, when I unlock my phone it shows the lock screen for a split second and then lock again. I've read that its a problem with proximity sensor (on the left of the speaker).
I have a tempered glass protector on screen, but there is no bubble above proximity sensor or any kind of dust. Everytime I stumble across this problem I try to clean the area and just spam lock button, after a while it goes away, but the knock knock unlocking still doesnt work. I have to reboot the phone for everything to work.

Welcome to Android Central! Do you have a case with a smartcover as well? That can sometimes cause problems with the screen shutting off if you fold the cover behind the phone.

Could it have anything to do with the angle that light might be shining on the glass? Maybe I'm way off base, but perhaps if light shines at the right angle, glare might be created which essentially obscures the proximity sensor.

It covers the sensor, but as i said there is no bubble or dirt above it.

Try one with cutouts or try it with no protector. Any time I've had one that covered the sensor it was nothing but problems. It doesn't have to be dirty to mess with the sensor.
