LG-G4 split screen. One half normal one half dead colourful dots

My Lg-G4 screen suddenly became 2 screens. One half stayed normal and functionally perfect while the other half became colourful dots and dead. I turned the phone off and on several times without any success. Switching to horizontal view did not change anything. The dead half became horizontal instead of vertical. Removing the battery for about 3 min also did not change a thing. Then after about 15 min everything came back to normal and the colourful half disappeared. Not sure what caused it but, it happened when i turned the phone to horizontal view. Is this a software or hardware problem? Never seen this before. Eddy

I've had that multicoloured-dots screen, the whole screen though, on my Nexus 5 once or twice, but that was long ago - a couple of years perhaps - and she's still going good. I don't recall what I did to try to fix it....probably a reboot. No idea of the cause.
