lg g4s manufactured before September have a defect

I send my lg g4 back to lg and it took them 2 weeks to send it back to me. According to them it was a capacitor that went out and struck it to a boot loop ...but when i got it in the mail and turned it on, it was exactly as when I send it to them . still in the same boot loop .....I went to T-Mobile and they send me a refurbished one. This new one was build in June not may like my last one. Hopefully this one doesn't go out. ( update....this new one seems to have a couple of touch screen problems .....)

Out of curiosity, what are your screen issues? I got a refurb from T-Mobile after boot loop issue on original one. (1st edition build, and 1st edition build on replacement refurb.) The replacement I got has a touch screen issue as well. Every now and then on app or anything with an option to touch it in the top left hand corner, (arrow to go back, menu or anything) it will not respond. If I reboot, it will start working again. It just starts doing this randomly. I have had the phone about 10 days and it has done this about 5 times.

Dear Chris,
I agree with you, I bought my LG G4 by June 2015 and it is almost dead, authorized service center advise that it is a mother board issue. No replacement as well. I lost my money. Anyone guide me to get a new mother board to fix this issue.

mine also went into a boot loop, got super hot up near the camera, got it replaced, and new one seems to be working better, or at least it hasnt gone into a boot loop yet, or had some other issues the other one had. the experience kinda soured the opinion of my first lg

Boot loop happened to me and i had to return to a sprint store so they could order a refurbished one that i wasnt to happy about and now for some reason i still dont have the mm update and i believe its because of the refurbished phone.

Same issues here with my Verizon LG G4. I bought it in July and the first phone I had was returned within two days due to a screen issue where it kept flickering like it was playing a distorted video. The second phone I received worked until this past Sunday. I powered it down to swap the battery, something I've done dozens of times, and it has not started back up since. I tried both batteries, connected to the power adapter, and tried the volume down and power button at the same time. No sounds, lights, or vibrations. I contacted Verizon and they are sending me a "Like New" replacement which won't arrive until tomorrow.

Now I have been trying various things and I did get the phone to respond and turn on briefly a couple of times. I got the LG splash screen and after about 20 seconds it just went back off. I also have had it vibrate like I was turning it on only for the vibration to go on for 60+ seconds. Then eventually it stops and the phone is off again. I'd love to find a way to get it on long enough to erase data or do a factory reset. I doubt that will happen though. Hopefully the replacement I receive was made after September but I am still reluctant to trust LG after all these reports and the issues I have had thus far (three phones in six months).

I need your guys opinion regarding this issue. As I mentioned above I am having the same problem with my Verizon LG G4. It has a SN starting with 506 and I bought it in July. Verizon is sending me a replacement that will arrive tomorrow. They expect the defective device back within 14 days. I called LG and they can do a warranty repair which could take approximately two weeks. My thought is I send the original phone to LG and have them swap the motherboard. They will wipe the device and when I receive it back I can always send that device back to Verizon (or the replacement they provide me tomorrow).

My concern is that my data is on the phone and I cannot get to it. Verizon claims that they will also try to power on the phone and wipe the device. But if they can't, they basically said the phone would be sold to a third party as parts only (which still has my data). I cannot control who eventually ends up with the phone and it could be someone that replaces the motherboard and gets to the data. I am just wondering if you guys would warranty repair the old device with LG to make sure it is wiped and then send one of the phones back to Verizon after it returns? Verizon will charge a fee if the defective phone isn't returned in 14 days but they said it won't be immediate so I may have a few extra days to get them the phone.

Appreciate your suggestions!

I've gone a few extra days past 14 before and wasn't charged, but not sure how long/often that grace period works. I'd personally prefer to send mine to LG for repair, if only to avoid refurbish roulette. I know my specific problem should be fixed and returned, instead of receiving some random used phone that could have other issues not addressed. I've been burned way too many times on refurbs before to want to go the repair route without even thinking about the data concerns yet.

So my replacement phone just died 4 months after I got it. Have to take it into Sprint tomorrow. Will not reboot. Started in recovery mode, did a factory reset. Nothing. Really disappointed in this phone.

Hopefully the carriers and LG replace these regardless of warranty status. This is obviously a class action waiting to happen for those that get stiffed. On a positive note the replacement I received from AT&T is running GREAT. I don't know if the problem that causes the boot issues also cause some battery problems or lag but I've had this replacement for a few weeks and I can't slow it down. And the battery is way better. AND the screen is brighter. If you get the boot loop hopefully you'll have a better experience like I am for your trouble. My serial starts 511 BTW.

My G4 on Verizon, manufactured in 5/15, got the dreaded boot loop this monring. As others have described, virtually no warning at all. Had been working fine. Then, BOOM.

I'm about to call Verizon right now. The issue I have is that mine is on one of their payment plans. I would think I shouldnb't be expected to pay installments on a refurb, right? I certainly intend to force that issue and push for a *new* G4. Unless they're willing to just forgive the rest of the installments. LOL!

Good luck! I went a similar route and either wanted them to give me a new G4 or a different phone. They refused and only offered the option of the refurb phone. I was even in their store and they wouldn't do anything other than have me go through customer service to process the replacement instead of getting a phone from the store. The only way out of your installment plan is to pay the remaining balance. Mine has $458 left on it and I'm not paying that due to faulty equipment. I am curious how your experience plays out.

God speed and good luck. Sorry man. I know it sucks. T-Mobile replaced mind in two days, and its a refurbished unit. I am still paying. I got over it. The phone is flawless and very quick and speedy. I am thinking hard about buying a second driver though. Eyeballing the Nexus 5X.

Another one to add to the list. Woke up this morning (with the phone on charge all night) to a dead phone. Took the battery out and back in and the infamous boot looping started. VERY occasionally it would get to the 'optimising android app' and would usually crash half way through. I did the command needed to bring up the page for a factory reset. That didn't work so I've now lost all of my data and information. The model is MAY 2015 which seems to be the killer month. Received it beginning of June and it is an UNLOCKED phone which means I can't go to carrier and have it replaced in a few days, I have to contact LG (which i've done, just waiting on email back) and most likely get it shipped off to them for 2 weeks. That's a long time to have no communication as I don't have a landline. I definitely believe it's a motherboard/overheating issue because if I leave the phone off and battery out for half an hour for them to go freezing cold then put it in and start phone it will start, launch like normal and actually work for 5 minutes but as soon as a bit of heat starts it instantly resets itself and goes on the loop again. So frustrating as it's such a good phone.

well this issue concerns me so much I went and bought a back-up phone (Note 3) in case my G4 manufactured 05/15 fails. I simply cannot be without a phone for even 24hrs. It is the only 911 capable device in my house.

Smart move. I brought my phone in to the store today and they immediately ordered me a new....well, refurbed "new" phone, which is okay I guess, but now I am without a phone until Friday. Not ideal.

I had boot loop on 1st one with Tmobile. They sent me a refurb replacement. It is 1st gen 505 as well. I am part of Jump and I am now eligible to jump.

1. Should I jump out of fear? (V10 or something else? I was hoping to hold out until G5 but the boot loop has me concerned.)
2. By a back-up phone? (Nexus 5 for $150 is an option right now.)

I've had three LG phones. The Optimus G, the Nexus 5 and the G4. The G4 is the first LG device I've read any trouble with. For me, this is not an issue. Things happen in production runs. This won't dissuade me from buying a G5.

Oh...The back button has got me. I just don't want to be stuck again like I was over Christmas. I may just have to get a cheap back-up.
