This seems to be an issue for others as I have been troubleshooting for a week now. I have no idea why this started....i dont even remember I've been searching for a resolve for so long. I've done the erase the ".nomedia" files, I've cleared the cache. I've done an update. I use Messages....not sure if that is relevant. When someone sends me a message with an images in the past i could press the image and save it. It would go to my Gallery. Well that's not happending anymore. If i press the image again, it tell me this image is already saved. The images are not in my Downloads. If i go to my File Manager>Messenger I can see past photos but I also see blank photos...white page with dog eared fold on top right. If i press on it...it says File type is not supported.

Yesterday I discovered.............I had a friend send me a pic via my cell phone number and then a different picture via Messages. The one she sent me via Messages I found i was able to save and it went into my Gallery. But the one she sent me via my cell phone number I was unable to save it to my Gallery. She was using an iPhone.

Help! I can't save my grandchildren's photos!

There's no "Gallery" to "go to" - Gallery is an app, not a place. It shows pictures that are stored on the phone. But saving a picture from Messages doesn't rebuild the media database, so they don't show up until you restart or run an app like media.Re.Scan.

"File type is not supported" means that someone sent you a picture file that you don't have any app capable of displaying. "Picture" isn't a file type, jpg is, bmp is, so we'd have to know the file type to tell you what's happening.

How does someone send you a picture to your phone number without sending it as a text attachment? (And don't confuse "File type is not supported" with "iPhones and Android phones aren't compatible in all things". If she sent you a file in a way that an Android phone can't receive it properly, you won't receive it properly, even though an iPhone can send it properly.)

Thank you for your reply. Based on your reply I obviously need some training. All I know is I can't save my images to my cell phone any more. Where are they going? I've have run the app media.Re.Scan. Nothing changed. Very discouraging....Kathy

Try looking in file manager instead of Gallery. They may be in a different file. I use stock messages, and mine save to a file named "Messages". I totally understand the need for grandkids pics!
