LG G6 Verizon version and international travel

Just got a G6 and I'm going to Italy in September. Will I be able to pop a local Sim card into it in Italy and still use that phone or go with Verizon's international plan?

Verizon LTE phones are unlocked right when they come out of the box.

Depends how much data you plan to use. Usually it is better to just grab a local SIM if you're going to be there for awhile.

Not sure what is available in Italy, but I travel to Serbia every year and use a local SIM card. I don't really need it to call people so I have a data only plan. I can still text people to let them know where I am but I pay peanuts as compared to a regular plan with data. Also note, in many countries if you do not add data to the plan you blow through your account extremely quickly if you have cellular data turned on. My wife has a regular plan there and I have to remember to turn off cellular data before she leaves the house where we have wifi.
