LG History with OS and security updates

I'm seriously considering getting the LG V3. OS and security updates are important to me. What is LG's history there? It will get Oreo, bit given their history, would you expect it to get P, and in a reasonably timely fashion? What about the monthly security updates?

Security updates tend to get funneled through the carriers. They seem to be few and far between, most definitely not monthly.

I can't recall LG having a good history of updates, security or OS.

Security updates come every few months. Verizon actually just pushed out two updates within the past month. The June security patch came out in August, got September in September, then just got October a few days ago.

What would you expect to give good updates?

When you say trash, do you must mean updates, or in general? Why do you consider it trash?

I had the ATT LG v20 for one full year. In that time we got two security updates that's it. No software updates. When I turned in the phone it was on the same software version that I got it on.

And the last security update we got was atleast three months old. LG gives not one single fk about updates.

Needless to say I now have a Moto Z2 Force but before the V20 I had the V10 that boot looped twice.

I gave LG a hell of a chance.

I am on Verizon now and Sprint before that. None of my phones received monthly up-dates.
I have the LG V10, 20 and now 30 all on V. There have been updates but not even simi annual. I do not recall the time frame my Samsung Notes were updated on Sprint (if ever).

I say the above with OUT concern as all my phones have ran (or run) the current Android OS at their time. Not a version two years old. So they were/are secure. I personally am not worried about update timing and have found LG/Verizon to be okay. I feel we will get an update or two over the course of the next year. If someone is that worried, get the Pixel or iPhone.
I'm staying with LG. Just my two cents.
Lateck,

They start off well but quickly become awful at it.
If timely updates are a thing for you LG will frustrate you

Well, yes, updates are a bit of thing for me. And, I'd like to be able to keep my phone for at least two years, preferably 3 without them being extremely behind after the first year.

I currently have a Samsung, and I'm underwhelmed. Security updates are not awful, but not great - at least they do come 2-3 months after they are released by google. And my Galaxy 6, which came out just over two years ago is not even going to get the last version of Nougat - it's at 7.0 and there it will stay.

I've been thinking about the Pixel, but I'm not thrilled with what I'm hearing about the screen, so I've been looking at options. I know that Google is using LG panels, but from whatI'd seen the LG ones are coming out better. So, I figured I'd check. I also like the audio stuff. Not enough to outweigh the update issues I think, though.

If you want to keep a phone for two years, well, Google's are your real option. First, it'll be kept up to date for a good three years post launch. And those security updates often bring in big fixes as well. And after that, there will be other avenues to keep it going... There is a 8.0 custom ROM for the Nexus 4. Not sure how well it runs, but that's still a 5 year old phone.

LG is pretty bad in this regard. You'll get a free updates early on, then they come few and far between. The V30 will get 8 eventually... But after that, who knows. I had a G6... It got two updates... The first right after I bought it in May, the next one in September busted it to hell and I needed to get a warranty replacement that luckily had the earlier update on it.

I had a V30 that, while a great phone, I just returned and the questions about long term support is one of the primary reasons I balked on keeping it.

I would blame that on ATT....Verizon had received more updates in is right on schedule at the moment.
