LG shakes up its mobile division after lackluster G5 sales | Greenbot

According to Korea Times, LG confirmed that it has created a new program management office to oversee the mobile division, which sounds like a new nanny is in town to whip the underperformers into shape.

LG was rather blunt about the problems in a statement to the Korea Times:

“Friday’s announcement is because LG Electronics’ latest flagship G5 smartphone failed to generate sales.”

The hope is that “new momentum” will come from the retooled effort. Such maneuvers are a common practice in the industry when a flagship device underperforms.

Who cares about friends....the phone works great

Well, given the fact that they geared the G5 as the king of modularity with LG Friends... yeah, they (and apparently the ton of people who chose to buy another phone instead) care about 'Friends'

If they bought another phone it wasn't mostly because of friends or modularity because no one else has friends or modularity to run to. People that didn't buy the G5 didn't do so for various reasons that had to do with the phone itself or because of some of the initial negative reviews. Anyone who buys a phone for a system of extras is risking being stuck with their extras after a couple of model iterations.

I think all the negative reviewers missed the point. IMO the G5 is a great phone and massively underrated. They only see the Modules primarily then the phone wheras most G5 owners merely see the Modules as a bonus feature

Hope this doesn't mean they will stop offering removable batteries!! If I didn't already have a V10 I would absolutely get a G5.

that would suck if they just started copying everyone else.

I'm warming up to the G5, but I can't say that this surprises me a lot. It's too bad that this is happening, however, as LG is a great manufacturer and company and the G5 obviously has merit.

Why would sales be low? Smaller screen. I think 5.5 inches is perfect. A lot of people just think bigger is better. Smaller battery. It's nice that battery is changeable but should be at least 3200mAh. 3600 to compete with Sammy. No wireless charging. It's a very popular feature. Weak GPS. Fit and finish...especially where module goes in. Very few people care about modularity feature.

And don't underestimate that when displayed next to each other in a store the Samsung screen looks much brighter than the G5 screen when both are on max brightness.

I really love ir blaster so I want to love the G5 but it just seems like it needed more refinement before release.

Perhaps it would have been wise to release a G5 the same size as G4 with better screen and camera and bigger battery than the G4 THEN release the current G5 as a totally new LG line of phones. Simply call it the LG MOD and go for the gamers and Android enthusiasts.

Most people that walk into a store don't put that much research into the phones they buy.

But they can see a brighter bigger screen next to a smaller dimmer one.

5.5 is not for everyone and brighter with over saturated colors isn't. Be happy with your choice.

I haven't bought a new phone yet. I was merely hypothesizing reasons for why G5 is selling poorly. Since it is selling poorly there is something people don't like.

The thing I do like about G5 is ir blaster. I cannot decide if that is enough of a reason to select it.

An IR blaster is not enough of a reason to buy a phone by itself. By the way if size is an issue the Nexus 6P is the phone to get as far as I'm concerned.

If I were to buy a phone with no ir blaster I would go with s7e or Note 7. The thing is I hate the curved edges. Only Samsung and LG have really good cameras. I don't like the 6P at all. I like the premium features added to Lg or Sammy shells.

After the disastrous experience with my G4 just dying out of nowhere and the huge problems experienced worldwide on the bootloop problem... I decided to never buy LG again. G5 was never an option for me.

Eventually you can run out of choices because any brand can end with a model or models with severe issues or poor support. At the moment I won't buy Samsung or Motorola.

I used to love Moto due to the great radio and simple ui but I lost interest when they got rid of multicolor led notifications.

My razr maxx hd still works perfectly on wifi and has better battery life to this day than any other phone I have used. Heck, my OG Droid still works on wifi too. Just too slow to be practical with modern apps.

If Sammy still had ir blaster I'd be all over it. It's my only complaint other than the curved edges.

The major reason I and many others left Moto is that they broke some promises with regard to updates on a few models and then offered 100 dollars off the price of two rather expensive phones if you purchased direct.
