LG OptimusS self unrooted

The other day, during a routine app update, Busybox installer was unable to update - said something about incorrect root. I was busy myself and couldn,t look into it. Yesterday, I bought and downloaded RAM Manager, and it wouldn't run. RAM Manager needs root to work. So, remembering that cryptic message from Busybox installer, I took a peek in the app drawer, and Superuser has gone missing! Come to think on it, I haven,t seen an app request or announce superuser access in...a while. WTF happened? How did my phone unroot itself? How do I get root back? and How do I keep the sneaky thing from unrooting again?
I have an LG670 running CM7.2.0-RC1-thunderc_LS670-KANG and Xyonia clockwork mod recovery.
Everything seems to be working OK except for SOME of the apps that need root. I have 8 apps that either need root or should have root access to work properly. I think I rooted originally using GingerBreak.app, but that was with the stock Froyo ROM. I just tried downloading it and using it again, but it ran for over 20 minutes and...nothing. Ideas?

Idk the answer to your question but just wanted to say GET RID OF ROM MANAGER NOW!!! It bricks the Optimus S. Unless you did mean RAM manager in which case disregard my post (wasn't sure if you typo'd or not).

since you still have xionia, just dirty-flash the rom that you are currently using, and you will restore root.
if you can't find your rom, then dirty-flash one of thekraven's cm7 builds (i suggest the 2-7 build for stability). it should work fine, but if it doesn't, wipe everything and flash again.

Just download a version of thekravens cm7 and right gapps, boot to recovery, wipe cache/dalvik cache and flash the rom then gapps and reboot. This way you will keep all settings and user data.

In his case he meant to say "RAM MANAGER" there is a app with that name.

Yes I did indeed mean "RAM MANAGER". No typo. I do know about ROM Manager. It did a very good job of bricking my phone when I first rooted. Had to do a battery pull and start over.

I'll try the dirty flash later. I'm expecting a call right now.

Have you restarted the phone since the root was lost there are a couple apps that alow a temp unroot so that's a possibility.

Possible causes:

1. You somehow moved, removed, froze, quarantined, or renamed Superuser or the su binary.
2. You somehow managed to install a version of the su binary that is corrupted or does not work (This happened to me just once several months ago, but it was patched very quickly. Had to root my custom ROM!)
3. Theoretically, an app with root permissions could have carried out this type of operation on its own, but usually the user is involved somehow.

I should add that I know nothing about RAM Manager or what it does.

OK, so, it sounds like you're saying that I still have root, but Superuser has gotten bolloxed up somehow.
BTW, I just checked Play, and it says Su is installed.

Just tried dirty reflash. Wiped cache & Dalvic, then flashed the ROM (the latest stable thekraven, I believe) and gapps. A lot of interesting things happened and I think it cleared out a lot of dead wood, so to speak, BUT...Superuser did not return. Back to square one...

Oops! not quite.
Tried Play again and this time it let me download and reinstall Superuser. All my settings and data survived, and all my needs-root apps are working properly again.
It seems to me that the phone never unrooted after all. It was SU that got messed up somehow. I did lose my SPRINT apps, but the ones I use were in Titanium, so I have them back now as well.
I think we can call this one problem solved, and once again, thank you all for your help!

Well you lost the sprint apps when you flashed the Rom, which is normal. Glad you got every thing figured out.

Catching up on threads...

To be clear on relationships:
Root is having a working su binary in the appropriate directory and being able to call it at will to manipulate directories above /mnt/sdcard (akin to /home on Linux).

Superuser.apk is permissions control program, much to your local system and respective directories like what a firewall is to the internet. It is like sudo for Linux or Mac... or UAC for users in the local Administrators group on Windows.
