LG Stylo 5, Group messaging is being sent as individual texts

[Android Central Question]

When i send a group message from the stock messaging app, it goes out as individual texts. I have OS 9.0, no software update available. I tried going to the options(3 dots) then settings. In MMS, Group Messaging is turned on (description says 'send a single message as a MMS when there are multiple recipients') I have tried turning it off and on and neither way resolves the issue. I have tried toing into Advanced Messaging but only options are Typing status, allow read report, auto-retrieve file, sent message in (best available). I have reset the APN and reset network settings, powercycled the device, I turned on roaming auto-retrieve and none of this has worked. I called my service provider and they have no idea and are suggesting a master reset. Any other suggestions?

Try clearing message app data, cache,force stop
