Hi,
My Thrive has been acting up now with ClockWorkMod. I installed CWM a while back and forgot I had it installed (I had been using an iphone 3gs up until a few days ago). Not thinking, I tried to do a system update through the phone's settings, cause I thought gingerbread was out. Now, my phone only boots into the recovery menu, never booting the os. It shows the LG logo and then straight to the Recovery menu it goes. I have tried almost everything, although I am very new to this. I have tried to restore; wipe data, system, cache; install a zip (a custom made pre-rooted stock LG update rom; link here: [ROM] LG Thrive P506 Stock FOTA 2.2.2 v11h - xda-developers ), and I tried wiping dalvik-cache.

I have CWM version 3.1.0.0 built specifically for the Thrive and Phoenix.
I found that here: xda-developers - View Single Post - [Source] LGP506 (AT&T LG Thrive GoPhone)
through here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/t-lg-phoenix-thrive/144945-how-cwm-thrive.html

What is the secret process that I am missing here?
How do I either a)Bypass CWM completely or b)find what is causing the phone to go into auto-recovery ?

Plus, could anyone please tell me the latest most stable (like has most features working, unlike the newest 4.1.1 which I read cannot do camera) android rom out there for the thrive?
Like I said, I am new to the whole rom/flashing scene so please don't be offended if I dont understand.

Many Thanks!

Since we don't have any updated/working gingerbread kernel, i would recomend you to install the latest arjen nightlies, but first i think you should install the latest stable recovery for the thrive 5.0.2.0, the only thing, is that it has color issues, but is working fine....

Arjen P505 latest Nightly http://forums.androidcentral.com/t-lg-phoenix-thrive/177264-rom-cm9-ics-4-0-4-cyanogenmod-9-android-ics-4-0-4-a.html

The latest CWM stable for Thrive Free Cloud Storage - MediaFire The one that says ClockworkMod recovery 5.0.2.0. Just flash it...

After that you must install the baseband fix, so your phone gets the radio (cellular signal) working OldBBFix_signed.zip

Thank you for your reply,
So far I have been able to update CWM, download gapps, and I am currently downloading cm-9-20120707-UNOFFICIAL-p505.zip from his pilson website. (Dropbox was down, and I didn't see the p505 roms at the RomTracker place.
I'll try flashing those and them that new BB.
I will update this post with my results probably tomorrow.

EDIT: Here is what has happened since then,

I have flashed CM then flash GAPPS then flash BB, Phone still went to recovery screen.

I reset/formatted all partitions to start over fresh.

I have flashed new BB then CM then GAPPS, Phone still went to recovery screen.

Could it be that I am using a p505 ROM on a p506?

I can acquire the logs from CWM Recovery if you need those.... Other than that, I have no clue what to do next.

I thought of that too but there on the thrive and unless I missed something they never offically release an upgrade for the thrive just the phoenix

You are correct. The Thrive never got its update.

As for using a P505 ROM on a P506, that's not an issue. Stable ICS ROMs include Piccolo and CM9 Unofficial for P505. You will need Arjens GB/ICS ROM as well as the OLD BASEBAND patch. All these items are here on ACF. Search and you'll find them.

Thanks for all of your responses, could I please get a instruction list like step by step?

This is my first time with custom rom flashing without the ROM manager, and I think I am missing something.

The instructions on the thread for ICS have some stuff in them that I cannot do, like I cannot format a 300 MB Ext2, only a 64, 128, 256, 512, etc. MB Ext2. Plus, I am unsure what to wipe.

Thanks!

once in recovery...
wipe data/factory reset
advance - wipe dalvik cache, and battery stats

back at main menu
install zip from sd card. follow prompts , choose right file.
repeat if you have a kernel to flash or a base band patch.

hope this helps

Yes, that is much better, I will try that later.

Thanks!

EDIT:
OK, I followed those steps when installing the rom, kernel, OBB fix, and GAPPS, but my phone will not get past the recovery screen still.

I think I may just have to contact Arjen in a PM.

when booting normally you shouldnt go into recovery at all.
try rebooting after each flash. you can reboot into recovery to count as a boot.
i would also try just flashing the rom and see if it boots.

Well it seems I may have just majorly screwed up.
I tried the kdz flash method as a last resort, and now my thrive only reboots in 'Emergency Mode'. I read the rest of the post and it seems that the error I got, the 4008 one is not fixable.
Does someone here have proof that flashing a different kdz booted their phone out of 'Emergency Mode'? I tried flashing the V10E like the guide said, and that was what failed with the 4008 error.
This is just great.
I don't think my phone is still under warranty because I've had it for a while, so I don't think I can contact LG. Plus I don't believe I have my proof of purchase either.

If you can boot into fastboot mode, Power+Vol Down+Home, then you can use the tool in my signature to reflash a recovery. Then you'll be able to try again. Don't know. I hard-bricked another Thrive myself using the kdz tool. Major crap. I could have saved my phone if not for that. Anyway, if you can get into fastboot mode, you should be able to save your device.
