When is this thing gonna get some love? No security updates. No mellow. I thought I read something about LG being on top of the security update game?

Good question. I'm on T-Mobile and there hasn't been a single update since this phone released. Yet less than a week after launch, T-Mobile pushes a small security update for the Samsung S7 and S7 edge.

I'm on the Verizon LG V10 and I've had a software patch and I'm on the Dec. Security patch.... But my LG G4 setting at home is on Marshmallow with the February security patch.

Yeah that's what I thought. Thinking about sending this bad boy to the selling floor. It's been a pretty good ride but I'm worried about the future of this device. Wondering if that second screen is going to become the hangup on future updates.

The second screen on the V10 is the whole reason why we are not getting the marshmallow update right away like the G4 did.

That's just beyond lame in a way. You get the latest and greatest flagship and then it poses a problem because of that.

And what are your sources for that statement?

I seriously doubt that is the reason.

Nice. I haven't even gotten an update on my G4, still running lollipop...

His source is probably an educated guess which I tend to agree with. The g4 already has MM and security updates. Though hopefully it isn't much longer since the global version seems to be getting MM. I am really hoping the delay is to improve the second screen, but that is probably wishful thinking. I'm also wondering if this isn't a dead end device. However if MM improves the battery life I will be content (for a little while anyway )

My V10 is running GREAT on lollipop, I have no complaints. Its been smooth, fast, snappy, efficient, PLENTY of battery capacity for my needs. Based on what I have read I am not so sure I want MM yet. Not everyone has been happy with it. Many want to go back to lollipop and can't for various reasons beyond this discussion. FWIW, I got my Verizon V10 December 24, 2015. Installed the "11B" update on January 11, 2016. Not exactly sure what that upgrade did, since I am so new to Android all together I really can't tell.

Out of curiosity... How important are security updates between adjacent releases if I am not doing anything really risky with my phone?

>I don't open www surf on my phone
>I don't click on "mystery links".
>I use access lock and turn off any permissions my apps don't need
>I only install apps I regularly use, and make regular habit of deleting those that I no longer need.
>I only install apps from play store from respected developers that don't have history of malicious activity.
>I have deleted all apps that I can not completely turn off in the background. So Amazon and facebook are run through Chrome.

The G4 has MM because it was out months before MM was released.

The V10 launched about the same time MM dropped. LG didn't spend time working on MM for the V10, they were working on launching the phone, promos, advertising, and making it run well on lollipop. They didn't start working on MM for the V10 until probably December and the released build is from February 16.

That's my theory.

Not gonna worry about it. The phone was fine when I got it and as long as it doesn't get worse for any reason, I'll be happy to use it as it is.

I'm not worried about MM necessarily but would be nice if LG and T-Mobile would push security updates.

Same here. My Droid turbo was never the same after the lollipop update. Killed the battery, which was the main reason I got it. I'm a little gun shy of updates now. I'm loving my V10, and I'm happy with the way it's running right now. Still wouldn't mind a seeing a security update though.

And you know this to be the facts and the truth...how?

It's easy to say anything on the internet.

Agreed. Samsung absolutely killed every Galaxy S3, including mine, with an Android update--that couldn't be reversed. Everything went to hell.

I want a functioning smartphone, not a gadget to stare at like a kid at Christmas as I await (demand?) the next update, never happy unless it's constantly being updated.

And since I have a functioning smartphone, life is good. (Oh, wait, did I really say that?)

I was on a Nexus 6 before this phone and can tell you that Marshmallow isn't that exciting. The only reason I'm interested in an update is so I can have a fingerprint scanner that works when I'm using a case on my phone. T-Mobile never sent us that update.

Doze is OK, but my battery life is pretty good with this phone... So I'm not worried about it.

I could embed a link in this post that would freeze your phone up if you selected it. The really dangerous stuff requires the user to install a file.

the biggest issue (that's still not completely resolved) are exploits in the trust zone. Those were addressed for the most part with the January patch. If I were using a phone with software older than the January 2016 patch, I'd not use my real Google account and never use something like Google Pay as a precaution.

So why are manufactures not releasing these security patches? Even my unlocked '15 Moto G is not updated. It's too bad these updates can't be pushed out by Google. There should be a way to bypass the vendor and go through the OS.
